Just about tried everything to get the tapping rattling to stop on my C230. This only happens when the car warms up after driving on the highway. It is perfect and quiet when you just start it. Used cleaning solvents in the gas tank. used cleaning solvents in the engine. Oil filled Mobil 1 0 40 Synthetic. Does not really increase in noise when I rev up the engine only when I let it idle you can hear it. Used stethoscope to listen and it and cant seem to locate where its coming from. Seems like injector side middle front of engine but not 100% sure.. I just don't know if its ok to keep driving. Changed timing chain tensioner, belt tensioner and shock and still the same. The tapping/rattleing is very faint and random but sounds like its getting a little more louder and more rhythmic .Sometimes its 1 second sometimes its 2 seconds apart..somewhat radom. PLEASE HELP before I starting sinking more money into this beauty.If it was the chain, it would make noise on startup. If it were the valves it would be always tapping. IF it were the lifters same thing, they would always tap. This ONLY happens when the car is fully heated up after driving on highway. Starts up so beautiful and quiet on cold starts. Noise does change when I put it in neutral, becomes louder, but it in drive it quiets down but still there. PLEASE HELP!!!
