Car doesnt like full throttle.

Hey guys, i just joined the forum. I bought a manual 2000 reg C180 yesterday, and on the drive home i noticed if i put my foot full down on the throttle, it doesn't like to rev above around 4,500RPM. However if i hold the throttle around half way down, i can go faster, and i can use the full rev range. A bit of googling tells me to clean the throttle body, is this a common thing?

It is a manual :) Now established it as the MAF, as it runs a lot better with it unplugged. Thanks anyway.
