My catalytic converter(s) are loud and gravelly on my '99 c230k. They don't rattle and it's not throwing a code, but I can hear them under acceleration and engine load. Should they be replaced? And is there an acceptable alternative to factory units that will still allow me to pass emissions? It's a CA car, but it's registered in Texas now. (Any way to get rid of the CA smog stuff and have it still pass??)
