Okay... I think I've found one of the only gripes I've had with this car- The OEM radio with the self adjusting volume to match speed! I've tried searching for any way to defeat this on Club202, MB World, and Bnzsport, but it looks like this is not something that's easily accomplished. If I switch to an aftermarket head unit, will that resolve my issues?

if your radio manual mentions no way of turning it off, then just cut the speed input wire.... pretty easy to do and is a permanent solution.... personally I like speed dependent volume, but yp to a point... I have an aftermarket becker unit and I keep the GAL set to stage 10 (of 15) so it only works at somewhat higher speeds....

Look at wire A1. Just disconnect it.

What determines if there is speed sensitive volume? I had it in my C280 but not in my C43. Maybe b/c of the hands-free telephone option?

Yeah, the speed dependant volume was kind a nice at first, but annoying later.

Too bad our cars don't have a way to access the computer to disable that feature....or is there? Like when the dealership was able to cancel my security light feature....maybe there's a way to do this internally with that diag tool?

See my post above, but according to what year your car is it is simple a matter of sniping one of the wires on the back of the radio. don't know which one however.:)
