What are the sizes of your wheels and tires?

check fuse and relays too

Check your stop light switch. Sometimes they are the cause of lt.
If you don't know where the stop light switch it's in the brake pedal.

I know that if the front to rear tire size (diameter) is too different the cruise control will not function.

Thats what I was thinking too. You had that problem?

DLS,
When I had some 235/40/17 tires on the front and 255/40/17 on the rear the cruise control would try to lock but would not. When I put the 245/40/17 on front which are the same diameter as the rears the cruise works fine and ESP works better too.

my cruize control goes out when i pass 55mph, my mechanic told me that its due to the different diameter of the tires...computer gets confused cause it is programmed for the stock wheels...

Thats what + sizing is for. Theoretically, the tire diameter size should be the same when sized properly.
I stepped up to 18's and no probs whatsoever with cruise control, even at 100+mph. Also, my set is staggered, so it is really important to have the sizing correct.

Yeah on my C36 my sizes were 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 and cruis control was fine

its definitely the brake switch i had that same problem it will cost you a little less than a $100 to replace

Are your tires staggered? IF they are 245/40/18's all around, I dont see why that would effect your cruise control.

yes my tires are staggered

Just wanted to chime in and say this is exactly what happened to me.
I was probably lucky with my 18" wheel and tire upgrade as I had no cruise control issues, but the ASR light did come on a few times. In know it's not the same as ABS, but it is still related to the wheels.
Going to 19"s definitely caused problems. I lost cruise all together and the ASR light also came on once in a while.
Going back to the stock wheel setup resolved the Cruise control issues.
So at least that was fixed.
In my case, the ASR light seems to come on every now and then regardless....and it takes a re-start of the car to get ASR online again.
Some crazy electrical issues I tell you....

Cruise will gradually come back as the tires wear away to min tread depth.
Brand/style of tires will have different effect - that is why some have been lucky on the +1 18" mod. Tires vary by up to 1/2 inch in diameter even though they have the same sizes written on them.
Denlasoul, what brand/style tire do you run exactly. That is what I want to rock if I ever go 18" cause I love my cruise.

Brand variation does exist, but to my experience it neglible, otherwise it won't passed the production floor ;)
I used to run Conti Sport (summer) 225/40/18 & 255/35/18 and now I am running P Zero Nero (Summer) 225/40/18 & 255/35/18
and I never have any problem with ASR, ABS or cruise control
everthing is normal...
I can see the problem with ASR interfering since it will notice difference in rotation especially at high speed
Take it for example
you have 18x8.5 on all wheels
the correct size calculation wheel outside diameter would be
225/40/18 all around or stay with 255/35/18
Here is the reason you should maintain the difference of the overall wheel+tires diameter as minimal as possible between the front and the back
here is is some measurement
225/45/17 = 24.9 inches (stock C36/C43)
245/40/17 = 24.7 inches (stock C36/C43)
225/40/18 = 25.08 inches (J Irwan C36 ;))
235/40/18 = 25.4 inches
245/35/18 = 24.7 inches
245/40/18 = 25.7 inches
255/35/18 = 25.02 inches (J Irwan C36)
265/35/18 = 25.3 inches
235/35/19 = 25.47 inches
265/30/19 = 25.25 inches
so look at the overal diameter
if you don't select the tire size wisely it will confuse the car computers
Hope this helps.

Kuhmo 712's. 225/40/18F and 255/35/18R.
These tires should almost be exact as JIrwan's set up. Not too sure how close tire manufacture's measure, but it will be very close.

If overall wheel diamension does not change, it should not affect the speedo isn't it?

I would think the difference in weight would be the factor that affect the speedo.

Circumference. You wrap a tap measure around the outside Dia. of the tire. Stagger is the Difference between the 2 being compared. Cirlce track cars it's L to R. We are talking front to back here. If front to back is the same, ESP, ASR, ... work best. If the dia. is different than stock bigger is slower that actual speedo. Time yourself at 60 Where there are mile markers. 60 sec. = 60 MPH. Supposedly MB dealers can reprogram the Chassis computer to compesate for this. Probably co$t$ big buck$.
DLS, The computer just knows the wheels turned so many times in so much time. If 1 rev of the wheel is not what it is calibrated for it generates distance and velocity errors. It assumes 1 Rev= sometning and if this something isn't stock....:D

Junaidi,
Was there any increase in noise or ride stiffness going to 18" wheels and tires?

Den,
I think the diameter will affect the Speedometer accuracy..
not the weight of the wheels ;)

stiffness yes but not alot the ride still more comfortable/softer than a lowered BMW.
Even some friends of mine who is not into modying car, can belive the ride still that comfortable with my car being this low (I am running Koni with 2/3 turn to the firmest)
noise is related... The Conti I used to have its noisier and a lot worse as it close to the worn-bar...
That's why I picked P-Zero Nero XL (Xtra load configuration)
since Nero is said to be a lightweight tires (weight less than other comparable tires). The Nero is much better tires on wet than Conti I , the Conti I I used to have execellent on dry but just suck big time on wet :( and noisy too
P-Zero Nero is a lot quiter, the road noise is completely gone.. (all I can hear now is the engine growl) And I have about 7000 miles on then so far and still very quite..and the ride is comfortable
Another reason I pick the XL configuration is to eliminate flat spotted from sitting on the spot for a while
Another tires that also perform excellent (on wet and dry) and resistance to Flat spot is Bridgestone S-03 and S-02 as some of you probably know already. That these 2 tires is probably tires that has the stiffest sidewall..
And S-03 has slightly more noise than P-Zero Nero
The downside using tires with stiff sidewalls on dailing driving is the ride will be bouncier than other models.. ;)

My old C36 had Kuhmo Ecsta supra 712s on it, i would say dont get these tires. They are cheap on the wallet but noisy and bad traction in wet.
I am going to try Dunlop sport FM for my next tires on the 43 or SO-3 but am unsure.

The Zero Neros seem to only be noisey on hard braking on the fronts on my 43. Even though they are 19's and too narrow for the rime width, they ride smoother and quiter and have noticably way more grip than stock 17's with Kuhmos on my 36. BTW the quitest tire that I have had are the AVS sp Db 2s. A lot of other folks in other forums talk down the Pirelli's.:bored: Just wish I could justify buying new ones more often. New tires are allways much sweeter, no matter what you end up with.:D

I also have p-zero neros for and aft and they have been quite good so far. They seem to be wearing far less than the Toyo proxies I had before. I liked the grip of the Toyos better in the dry, but the Neros are slightly better in the wet.
For me, I thought the Neros were really noisy though. But that was until I realized it was how crappy the freeways are in my area. Once i hit a patch of new road, it was quiet and smooth.
Some tires I also liked were the Falken GRB series. I actually thought they gripped better than the Neros and Toyos. But they wore out extremely quick.
Worst tires i've had on the C36.....Nitto 450s! They came with the car when i bought it and squealed ALL THE TIME. They were loud as heck too.
I thought it was something I would need to live with due to the car, but once I changed to the Falkens, it was clear the Nittos sucked. I hear the 555s are cool though.
I really liked the S0-2s. Nice aggresive tread too. Wore out quick though. I think the Neros have been a good compromise of wet/dry performance and longevity.
