Engine Halts

Hi Everyone, I have a c280 (99) that was giving me gear problems and engine halts. My mechanic told me that the Air Mass Meter needed to be change and I did. Replacing the Meter fixed the Gear problem, but it did not fix the engine halts. Usually the engine halts whene it I hit the breaks. The revolutions drop all the way down to 800 and continue to go down to zero. If I re-start the car again, it starts like nothing had happened.
