IR key fob ASAP

trying to get one off of Ebay. Stealership says it has to be made for my car or won't work. Does anyone know if this is true. Won't any key fob work with any car, or can the be programmed?

nope. gotta take the cost of the new IR key and have it ordered from Germany.
