Could this work ? Bigger air intake ?

I was just thinking about something with my mass air flow sensor when it hit me. If you get a proper screw driver you can remove the mass air sensor unit from the tube, that seam to be the restrictor with inlarging the air flow system, the you could custom design a new air intake tube from what ever hand layed fiberglass, other mercedes parts. lets say you increased the over all diameter 1 inch and routed the intake to where it could pick up ram air effect would you get any noticable increases in hp?

or i noticed that V8 engines have two intakes could a custom part be added to the existing air intake system to allow to points of entry for air one that buy passes the Mass air flow sensor, or would that screw something up?

Someone can correct me if I'm worng, I believe the air mass sensor is calibrated to the size of tube it is mounted in. If you put the actual air mass sensor in a different tube, the ECU won't know how much air is flying by because the ratio is different.
