Can anyone tell me how to reset the service engine light in a '98 c280? (not the CEL, the one right underneath the odometer).
Thanks

If you're talking about the Service Reminder Light, I'll try.
1. Turn the key to No. 2 position
2. Hit the lowest button, underneath the dimmer lights, twice really fast.
This will show you either a mileage or days.
It's the same display as you odometer.
3. Turn the key off.
4. Hold the same button & turn the key back on. Hold the button for 10 seconds, until you hear a beep.
5. You should now see a new mileage ( 10 k miles ).
6. Have a beer. ;)

Thanks, Manny

Worked like a charm.

Of course, the dealership always said to be sure not to reset the service indicator when changing oil in between A/B service... guess that's so you don't miss getting back in there!;)

I wanted to double check this. When I hold down the button for 10 seconds the screen comes up 25 12. What does that mean? It does not reset the code (currently reading -2400) :D

Try this one of many Threads regarding this topic. (http://www.club202.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=99918#post99918)

That post really doesnt answer my question. Im fully aware that -2400 means Im 2400 miles past my due date. My question was related to my screen reading 25 12.

After doing those steps, my display changes to 25 12. I do not get a beep and the interval light continues to blink each time I start the car.

The only thing I have not tried was your suggestion (in a previous post) of trying it with the door open or closed. The manual does say that the interval can be days or miles so what is 25 12? December 25th? I thought it meant days like 365 or so not dates.

Hey sig-

My bad, I put up that link for all the others who are looking for answers.

Im not too sure what the number mean, but I recall reading something on one of the MB forums (I know, what good is that ;) )

Anyway, Ive noticed that the reset is picky and you have to do it properly or it will not reset. I often have to try multiple times.

cool.. I'll try a few more times and see what happens. If all else fails, I will use electrical tape to cover it up :D

turns out I wasnt in position 2. Position two turns on all the dash/warning lights. I thought position 2 was the accessory position. It worked this time.
