steering wheel problem?

I have a 1996 C36 and my steering wheels make noise everytime I turned them.....Anyone know that is wrong with it...do I need to put some wd40 in or something like that...

What kind of noise does it make? Squeak? Clunk? Is it coming from inside or outside?

it makes squeaky noise from the outside when I turn my steeing wheel...sound like is dry.
not to bad but it get annoying after a while...I planning to put some wd40 but not sure if that is a good idea or not.
