'98 C230..is there a common failure part in the steering linkage? My ft end wanders a little on the highway..not too bad, but...annoying. I've already done the ball joints..nothing leaking...haven't had a chance to get it up in the air ...something I should be looking for??

are your wheels stock or did you step up to a different wheel/tire combination?

also, are you lowered at all?

both will have an effect on perceived handling.

Box stock..I had an issue with drifting to the right..bought the factory camber adjusting bolts...a friend used a new Hunter machine..got alighnment dead nuts..still drifted..moved rt ft tire to rear..straight tracking...but rear end squirmed. Replaced rear tire..now nice and straight..but wanders slightly..not a pull or drift..requires constant correction..slight, but there...don't feel any looseness in the steering itself. Someone mentioned slop in the center/ drag link...possible?

One quick check you could do.
Open the drivers window, start the engine, reach in & turn the steering wheel left & right.
Watch & see how much you have to move the steering wheel, befor the left front wheel starts to move.
Any more than " 2 fingers " play, would be questionable.
I'm sure your alignment buddy can determine the exact nature of the problem ( possibly tierod end ). ;)

Another thing to add to the control arm bushings is the idler arm. I have also found that the choice of tires and their inflation has a big affect on "tracking", especially if the road is worn or rutted.
