I noticed a metal piece on top of my brake caliper, looks like a valve or somehting its exposed and not connected to anything, what is it for?...could it be the reason i have bad braking power

if its what i think it is that is your bleeder valve used to remove old brake fluid.

a picture would really help figure out exactly what it is.

no camera!, if someone else had a pic of their brakes id gladly point it out...but wouldnt you have the bleeding valve, turned in a down position so that you dont bleed it over your entire caliper and brakes..

if its on top is gotta be the bleader valve that way it lets all the air out if its on the bottem there could still be air at the top, thats why its put at the top of the caliper and you should not get any break fluid over anything you use a piece of hose when bleeding if thats what it is, with out a picture i can not say 100%. Though i had my tires off the other day and I will have them off next week i will check for you if you would like ?
