I am trying to install an Alpine 7893 and am looking for the wiring color codes. Which is the ground wire (there are several brown wires) and which is the amp remote wire?

If you still have your harness, just look at the diagram, and position the wire via the harness. If you cut it already, I have no clue.

Just picked up a VW harness that states for 87 and up VW. I'm wondering if I have the wrong thing.

Looking at your wiring diagram..I'm missing prongs it seems. The diagram you posted shows two blocks with 8 prongs each. The top box is fine as it contains all the speakers.

The bottom box, I seem to be missing prongs for 1,2,3, and 5.
The back of the package reads off the wiring color code for the harness I bought.

Red = 12volt ingition/acc
yellow = 12batt memory
black = ground
blue = power antenna
blue/white = amp turn on
black/white = amp ground
orange = ilumination
orange/white = dimmer
brown = phone mute
The rest are speaker wires.

The harness also doesn't have the above wires brown, orange, black/white, or orange wire. The blue and blue/white amp wires also don't feed through the clip into a prong, they also have their own wire hook ups.

am I a tard and missing something here, This seems way more confusing than what you guys seem to have done. The pictures are gone too which doesn't help.

Could I use the harness off of the back of my OEM HU? Use the above diagram and mate the correct wire from the new HU to the OEM harness and connect it to the car. This shit is annoying, I'm gonna stick to metal and mechanical stuff. I actually feel like going out and beating up some tech guy just for knowing this stuff.

You got the right harness...most of those just connects to the oem wires.. I think you're supposed to connect the red wire from the alpine to the orange wire on the harness or maybe the other way... if I have time tomorrow I will take my alpine off and take a look for you... make sure you get the european antenna adapter also.. bout thirteen bucks at bestbuy... I'll post again after i take a look at my HU...

Well, if you dont have the phone option on your C43 you most likely will not have the prongs 1,2,3. 5 I am not sure yet but will try and look into it. Can you tel me which harness you used, brand and parnt number? That may help me figure things out. I have a VW harness as well hooked up to my Nakamichi.

The harness is made by Metra. Its called smartcables No# 80-1784 for VW's 87-up.

The guy from circuit city seemed to know what I was looking for and talking about and grabbed it right away.

My car does have the phone option. I was looking at the diagram again and I think I'm starting to understand....kind of.

I think that if I remove the HU and take a look it may be easier? I'm amazed this has confused me so much as I've done things far more complex.

The new HU is a JVC with a small 3.5in display to watch DVD's and such. It fits in one din space also. Its pretty cool so I'm looking foward to installing it.

Is there a way to connect an OEM CD changer to a new HU?
