Question to anyone who may have encountered this.

Does anybody have any issues or problems like rubbing
when using 18x8 - 225/40 18 (front) and
18x9 - 255/35 18(rears).

I'm quite concerned about rubbing issues coz I did some
dry fitting (without the tires) to see how it would be like.
It sits so awfully close to the wheelwell inner walls and
to some suspension components.

Check out the pictures (http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=4287221319) I took.

Warning: 56k'ers goto sleep as these are big ass pictures
to illustrate details.

many thanks,
hvmercy :)

That is the current setup I have on my car. For the most part, fitment is fine. My fenders came rolled already from the factory, so that might help a bit.

I do experience some rubbing on the front passenger side fender lining. I hear this can be common, but I believe my shocks could be bad (they rubbed even before I lowered my car).

Oh yeah, my car is lowered about 1.5 inches. Also note, that the rubbing is on medium to large DIPS in the road. I feel that things will be corrected with new shocks (which I have,) and an alignment.

I have problems with the front driver's wheel for rubbing. But my shocks need to be changed. It will also depend on what tyres you use. The Yokohama's I had never rubbed but these S-03's do.

I think it's due to the fact that the S-03's have a wider stance.

hvmercy,

you shouldn't have any problem with 18x8 on W202
although the wheel's inner lips is close to the steering knucle that should be okay as the position is fixed..(always fixed)

Just make sure the tire that you go with doesnt have : thick rim protection ring on the sidewall like S-03 and S-02 do... and some other tire brand as well..

If you look at my wheel on the gallery the tires that I am running just right.. (meaning the tire sidewall doesn't protrude more than the wheels outer lips).

The only rubbing that I have at the moment when I do hard u turn and hard cornering as my front lower C-arm bushing is busted.. (so the suspension geometry changed when there is tension : i.e. turning) ;)

Folks, thanks for all your insights. I'm beginning to get more
comfortable now with these new (to me) wheels I bought
yesterday. Let me also clarify that these are staggered application
18x8 front and 19x9 rears.
(J Irwan ru 18x8 all around?)

In addition I'm gonna get Yokohama tires from tirerack as
Brabus explained the benefit of getting this brand.

(Hey Brabus, ru Euro educated? Last time I saw someone spell
"tires" as "tyres" was from a professor I had in college who
happens to be a Scotsman) :D

keep those comments coming...

Denlasoul: thanks for your comments.

J Irwan and Kwik: thanks for the pics.

I can never get to link pictures from Imagestation.

Finally, Kwik is your car on stock height?

I agree with Freestyler...

Anyway, I'm faced with more dilemma as to which one to install
on my C. Having read comments from several of you I'm getting
apprehensive about going 18's now coz of the rubbing issue.
I previously said that I was getting more comfortable however
after thinking long and hard I don't want to loose my
quick turn ability such as making u-turns on a narrow street.
I know some of you will disagree but I'm more of a function guy.

So before I put in my order with Tirerack I'm gonna ask you folks once again for your opinions.

Which one?

This?

Right now I'm leaning towards the 5-spoke so I'm
gonna sell the other set (AMG Aero) if I get any buyers.

What rubbing issue? I have NO RUBBING. This size wheel/tire combe is just fine.

I didn't say you have rubbing issue. I was referring to all
the caveats above. My fenders are not rolled and I have no
burning desire to do this. Perhaps in the future I'll consider it if I
want to make the car look more slammed. I'm trying to minimize the work I would need to do to my C.

Btw, I love those Carlssons.

I have not done any fender modifications. I have also used S-03 tires on these & other wheels and did not have any rubbing issues or turning issues.

I think you might be getting a bit worried about nothing.

you might say I'm paranoid. I've had a bad experience re:

I installed 18s last week, no rubbing
I dropped my car with eibach and koni, still nothing.

I'll change the pads later and check if there is any rubbing, but for now, nothing.

As for rolling fenders, mine in the back are already factory rolled it seems, and in front they are very little (over 45 degrees with honrizontal), they are way smaller than the lips on my acura integra.

So I installed the 17's instead. I like it so far.
I'm running staggered 17x7.5 front and 17x8.5 rears.

I have my springs and shocks ordered thru AutoInnovations and
it should be here tomorrow.

Thats how they all come, but once you dump it and let the spring settle a little then you'll get rubbing if theres any. It also depends on the tire whether the profile is rounder or more squareish.

The prings are settles pretty much because I bought them used.

I don't think there will be any more sagging. (I hope so)

there is no rubbing with 18s, the only rubbing i had was when i was backing up, but that was due to a bad alignment, otherwise i had 4 people in the car and trunk full of bags and still no rubbing
