Since I got laid off last week due to downsizing I looked for something easy that might help add some flash to my car. So I came up with drilling out the center of the lug nuts and then dishing the bolt heads.

Nothing major, but it did take some time. It looks pretty cool on the car.

Do you have a close up? Did you use a ball end mill or just a drill bit? I can't see from the picture. Sorry to hear about your job. Good Luck.

The close up looks really nice.

You just used a drill? and then a polishing cone?

The work won't weaken the bolt as the center section of a bolt does not really have any stress. The dishing on the bolt head only removes a minor amount of weight and does not affect the strength either. Many of the newer Japanese Sport bikes have many of there bolts drilled and countersunk in the same manner.

I just used a drill and then a 45 degree countersink drill, followed by a sanding roll on my Dremel.

I wish I could tell you it took like an hour total but it was more like 4-6 hours, spilt up over a day and a half.
