View Full Version : 245/45/16
Has anyone had expirence w/ this tire size? I have a '98 c280 sport, and I need some new rubber to get me through for a little while. I am running factory rims, and not lowered--yet(I do have a cup kit, but it's not installed as of yet) I'm not ready to purchase an 18" staggered setup. As long as I need tires (now) I want to put the widest ones on my rims that will work and look decent. Any insight on a 245/45/16?--Pretty close in dia., and width. How 'bout it?

i'm looking at doing the same thing you are. tires.com says that the 2 plus one sizes that will fit are 215/50r16 and 225/50r16. let me know what you go with and how it works out.
I just put 245/45/16's on the rear of my 98 C280, and 225/50/16's on the front. I talked with Luke @ the Tirerack before I did it, and he said that the setup would work fine. So far no rubbing and I am happy with the way the setup looks. It made a VERY noticeable improvement in the handleing and did not diminish the ride quality at all. I would reccomend this to anyone who doesn't want to change thier rim size yet, but needs new tires. Talk to Luke because the Tirerack has some incredible deals on this size setup right now. (ie roughly 250.00 shipped for (2) 245/50/16's, and (2) 225/50/16's) That's tough to beat.
old thread but whatever,
As a side note--I was at an upholstery shop today. There was a '92 Porsche 928 there and I noticed the tires--225/50/16's on the front and 245/45/16 on the rear. I wondered if that was the factory setup so when I got home I checked it out. According to what I was able to find out Porsche used this tire setup on the 928 from '87 to '92. Anyway, I'm still happy with my setup but I will go the 18" staggered route when I can.
