Hello,
First I would like to thank all of you who have posted the amazing amount of useful info on this site.
Took my 98 C43 (2 months new to me) to an indy shop today for a general checkup. First the good news, the transmission is fine. Mechanic pulled the codes and gave me a bunch of info. Had to replace the battery in the trunk and the key battery.
He also mentioned that I was getting an unusual amount of misfire codes. He said the normal number was 0 and I was showing a consistent 40-45. What could this mean? He suggested a fuel filter and spark plug change.
Side question: Any way to get my hands on one of those magic scanners to pull my own codes.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

GO BOLTS!!!!!!!:D

How many miles on your car?? was your check engine light on at all.. or did you complain of a rough running engine?
if not I say dont worry bout it.. unless you are feeling any misfires or your check engine light is on. as for changing spark plugs and fuel filter.. repl fuel filter at recommended miles by your owners manual.. and if the spark plugs are original.. I say replace them.
in regards to the question about a scanner to pull codes.. there is only one real scanner for mercedes benz's.. the star diagnosis or hand held tester (older version) these are only available to licensed MB dealers from what I know, and they cost something like $15,000.
I think there is a programe available on the aftermarket that converts your plam pilot and other pda's into a scan tool.. OBD 2 pda scan tool (http://www.auterraweb.com/)

thanks slammed.
I have 61k on the car and the engine seems to be running fine. I have a wierd vibration while moving but I think that is due at least in part to a bent rim. I will change the plugs and fuel filter and go from there.
BTW I used the pictures of your car to convince the wife that I "needed" the new springs.

only 61,000k...I dont think u need to replace the fuel filter till 96,000k, but its really up to you if you want to do it now.. Id really recommend plugs if they havent ever been done yet.
is the vibration in the steering wheel.. or can you feel it more in your seat.. like its coming from the rear?? at what speed?
lol.. I see.. so your going to dump the C43 huh?? well glad my car has allowed u to dump it!!

The vibration seems to be the worst when the car is cold and reduces as the car warms up. I have had the wheels balanced but that didnt help. When cold you feel the vibration everywhere. When warm it seems to be coming from the back. I know one of the back rims is bent but the vibration seems to be more of an oscillation than a consistent instensity.
Very strange overall so I am eliminating things one at a time.

Not going to lower the car too far. Used your car as an example and then the 1.5" that I want to lower seem "reasonable" to the wife.:)

yeh the rim could be it for sure.. I would say that the bent rim in the back would feel like an oscillation.. like the rear end is making small circles.. from left to right, up to left.. back down left.. then right, then up... and so on. maybe your tire is messed up too.. belt shifter of something.. feels worse when cold then gets slightly better when warm... things relax more when heated!!
lol.. well ya gotta lower that C43!!.. my car is dropped about 2 1/4" all around.. thats probably abit too much for u since u only wanna go 1.5!! but glad the wife approved!! always gotta run it by them.. well if ya know whats good for ya! lol
