installing a power inverter

Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone has hooked up a power inverter in their car.. My problem is that everytime I turn on my inverter it seems to make a loud hissing noise through out the system. I don't seem to know how to get rid of the noise.. Can someone please help..

some inverters will do that. have you ever heard the flouresent lights when they are on, same thing it's just the voltage getting "upped" (i.e. 12vdc-120vac)
