hi,
i would like to change the brakes on my 98 C230 and moste likeley get MB brakes. Are there brakes and discs at the dealer for a C36 or C43?, if so is there a difference and should i invest into them or just get the original C230 ones?

you could utilize "search" function on this forum with "brake upgrade" as keyword
and result (http://www.club202.com/forums/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=40923&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending)will come

but here (http://www.club202.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=228&perpage=15&highlight=brake%20upgrade&pagenumber=2) one of thread that contain information on break upgrade

If you're looking for C36 or C43 upgrade forget it.
Through the dealer the C36 front caliper alone with cost about $1600, and additional $500 for the rotor (MSRP)..
and same with the C43 brake

if you want to upgarde to big brake kit, go with the known Brand:
AP Racing, Brembo, Stoptech, Mov-IT, Willwood, etc..

Hope this helps. :)

thank you ,
sorry about the stoopid question, i have been on the site and using "search"f or honestley about 2 hours now, it's just so much info and so much to understand.
i don't want to make silly and costly mistakes seeing that I'm new to making car repairs on my own.
Thanks

no problem

just to summarize, if you're willing to spent $1900+ for brake upgrade then go with aftermarkets Big Brake Kit (BBK) ..

Going for the Mercedes C36, C43, E55(W210), or CLK55(W208) OEM brake just not worth the money, unless you can get a used one very very cheap.. :)

These Aftermarket (AP Racing, Brembo, Stoptech, Mov-IT, etc) are more superior brake than AMG brakes ... in term of stopping power performance, heat dissapation, and weight much less off course) :)
