I know someone starting their own carbon fiber company. So far they have done kevlar dashes and door panels for civics, will have pics of their work soon, but its very clean comparable to VIS...
I have talked to them and he can overlay either carbon fiber or kevlar on the trunk lid or hood and then put a gel coat on and then an automotive clear coat.
Hoods and trunk will need a core exchange
kevlar will be a little more expensive but not by much (yellow/black weave) and is stronger than normal CF.
please let me know if you guys are interested and whats a fair price for the trunk and/or the hood

i am intrested if fitment is very good. ALso it needs to be able to stand up on its own, using stock brackets and such, no hood pins. If ur guy can make it look and work just like a stock hood and be steady up 150+ miles an hour then i would def buy, for a good price of course ;)

If his guy can make a hood that good, than price shouldnt be a determining factor.

i dunno if you read my post correctly, its a carbon fiber overlay, meaning it uses the stock hood and there is cf laid on top, with resin then clear coated to a smooth finish. so the hood will fit perfect and funtion jus like stock but with the nice cf finish.
i personally have the VIS cf hood and it does not fit perfect at all and did a lot of modifications in order for it to work/fit and still does not fit totally like oem. that is why i want to get the cf look but with perfect fitment and no worries. the hood will not have a performance function, but will look damn good imo with a matching trunk

the overlay will be good for ppl who just want the CF look and not for those who are looking for performance. im def. interested in teh overlay not only will it look good but it'll cover all the imperfections of my hood :D

I know that you can get a prety nice CF hood from VIS for our 202s for less than $500. I ve seen it, the fit is great and look great too. The one I saw had locks on it so i dont think it will break no matter how fast you go, But i dont really see any of us goin 140+ in our w202 except speedybenz.
When i talked to the guy he saw it helped a lot with the weight problem and surprisingly noticed better accelleration.

I'd go no higher than say......$250.
Price of a c/f hood is about $500...so 1/2 of that sounds fair.

n/m i didn't read the whole thread, 250 sounds about right for a CF over lay. But why??? i would want to paint my CF hood anyways, IMO CF hoods are ricey, especially if its not real.

actually i have a vis hood and it was $550 picked up at their location down south and it does not fit well and is not a direct bolt on, i mean it still works but the lines dont match up and there is a big hump from the fender and the hood, another person who has this hood (the only other owner i kno of) has the same problem
$250? i dont think u understand the size of the hood, its not a civic and the hood curves down... $400 is more reasonable to me, there is a guy in the bay area who has a cf overlay on his hood, perhaps we should ask him how much he paid

Well to me it looked great guess i am not as picky. But you get what you pay for. If you want an OEM fit real CF hood i am pretty sure you can get, but expect to pay at least the OEM cost of the hood from the dealer + then some which is $1000+.

I see your point, but why pay $400 for overlay when you can buy a real one for $100 more. Sure the quality is not as nice, but what do you expect.
I'd rather shell out $1000 and have the hood just the way I want it.

nm guys... i guess you dont understand how much the materials are (the carbon fiber and then clear coat) not to mention all the hours they put into it, body shops charge $55-60 an hour, you think it will take only 2 hours to do a whole benz trunk or hood nicely?
$200? i cant even believe you drive an amg, you sure u dont have a budget c220? haha
well thanks anyways guys i guess this thing isnt going to happen I thought benz owners would have a higher market value on this kinda stuff...

no offense but just cause we have mercedes doesn't mean we have all this money to blow away on fake ass hoods. you ask 400 thats great, except another 90 for shipping. who the hell is going to do that when you can get a real one with warranty and shit for only a 100 dollars more. i am 18 with a c280. doesn't mean i am making tons of money. so don't be a douche when nobody wants to pay your marked up prices.

im not sayin a person with a benz has money, but he drives an amg c36, i have a amg c43. Yes you have a c280 and other people have a c220 or 230 no offense but good for you. imo a c220 owner is trying to own a luxury car but has no money to do it. a c280 i can find all day for $12k or less which is like gettin an integra or civic.
I am just sayin to take into consideration the materials alone are at least $100 for jus the trunk and a hood is even larger, and he said $200 total what kind of reply do you expect from that.
Also, the hoods are no longer goin to be in production.
FULL CARBON FIBER TRUNKS WILL BE MADE IF I HAVE ENOUGH BUYERS. IT WILL BE A FIBERGLASS SKELETON WITH REAL CF OVERLAY, THIS WILL HAVE THE LOOK AND FUNCTION EVERYONE WILL WANT, WILL WEIGH MUCH LESS THAN THE OEM METAL TRUNK LID. LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. PRICE OF A REAL CF TRUNK WILL BE $600 PLUS SHIPPING OR LOCAL PICK UP IN THE BAY AREA. NO CORE EXCHANGE IS NEEDED, HOWEVER IF SOMEONE WANTS TO SUPPLY THE TRUNK FOR THE MOLD I WILL GIVE THEM A $200 DISCOUNT, SO YOUR STOCKL TRUNK LID PLUS $400 FOR A CF ONE THAT WILL WEIGH ROUGHLY 1/3 IN LBS

You do realize this statement goes against everything that CLUB202 stands for. Its not about what model of a 202 you have. Its about just enjoying the car.
So perhaps CLUB202 and its memebers arent the crowd for you then.

I'm curious if you're the first owner of the C43 you're driving?
Geez, you're trying to drum up business and yet you put down
people who owns a regular w202.

sorry for having my own opinion, I just dont like how people think it is only $100 to overlay cf thats all. no I am not trying to make any business here, I AM NOT MAKING ANY MONEY OFF THESE CF TRUNKS, jus thought some people would be interested in it and I know someone that is willing to make a mold and everything and trying to help other people out.
geez guys all im doin is replying to what bangnbenz said, he said just because we own a benz doesnt mean we are making a lot of money and goes on about how he is 18 and drives a c280. How come is it that another benz can trash my thread and i cannot respong back.
I stated that no, i do not think everyone with a benz has money to blow, but this guy has a c36 which is a step up in the w202 models vs the c220 or even the c280. and in my personal opinion i believe the c230 or c280 does not even compare to a c36 or c43 model. I have owned a 97 c280 sport 3 years ago and now i have the c43 so I believe I can have an opinion on whats better.
No I am not the original owner, I am the second owner since 55k miles and now it has nearly 90k miles and ive had it for about 2 years. I bought the car all stock and am slowly fixing it up.
And if you are a mercedes owner you better have money to spend because repairs on the car are very costly over a civic. You say $200 for a cf overlay then you must be shittin bricks when you find out a brake job for a benz isnt $89 as advertised at your local sears.
you also must be cryin when you find out that the car has 16 spark plugs vs a regular 4 banger.
I had a sensor go out in my c280 i forget what it was but cost me $600 to replace, a damn sensor is $600? you can get an entire ecu for a honda for $100

guys im not trying to talk trash or start fights or anything here. yes all w202's are nice in there own way but a c36/c43 is a totally different driving experience...
i was only trying to give other members the chance to get soemthing that has never been made before and to be unique from all others, so you must imagine my frustration when a guy offers $200, lol
I am going out of my way to post this up for you guys and i want to share it with other members...
so can we please jus stop all this and go forward to the main goal here, which is to produce functional cf trunk lids for weight reduction!!!
once again sorry if i sounded like an ass!!!

I think $250 is very resonable for a fake c/f hood. I'd be stupid to buy a fake for a price like $500.
Either way, good luck. I'd still rater shell out money for a quality piece (real, that is).
Oh yeah....what would be the purpose of lightening the rear? The front I can understand, but having the weight in the rear is kinda vital in terms of keeping the wheels to the ground.
Regards,
:werd: up Nokia. I feel ya. ;)

i think the car is heavy enough, so taking out as many lbs as you can the better. speedybenz has taken many things off his car to lighten the load even his spare tire and jack in the rear
i guess you can think about it this way, drag cars have fiberglass and gutted and lexan everything, the lighter the better!!!

i didn't see anybody offer 100 bucks for the over lay so dont' be so dramatic

respond all you want but dont dont make a bigger ass of your self when you do

So what if he has a C36, you have C43 and you want a REPLICA CARBON FIBER hood, if i used your logic then you should be forkin out $1000+ for the real thing since you have a top of the line AMG
No I am not the original owner, I am the second owner since 55k miles and now it has nearly 90k miles and ive had it for about 2 years. I bought the car all stock and am slowly fixing it up.

You dont need alot of money if your smart, my cost to my fix my car is far less then that of my friends civic. FYI Replacing both rotors and pads for my front breaks on my Benz is about only 90 bucks, all OEM stuff.
you also must be cryin when you find out that the car has 16 spark plugs vs a regular 4 banger.
i dont even think any benz have 16 plugs
I had a sensor go out in my c280 i forget what it was but cost me $600 to replace, a damn sensor is $600? you can get an entire ecu for a honda for $100
why are you even comparing honda and mercedes??? your c43 is 50K new and honda civic is 12K new, so obviously the parts are going to be cheaper.
If you are calling us all cheap ass then spend the money on a real CF hood, Why get a FAKE one ??
99amgc43
05-12-2004, 11:30 PM
geez guys i wanted to drop this.
but first off, the guy with the c36 offered $200, materials are $100 so 200-100 is $100 to overlay cf on a mercedes hood, do the math
second, please tell me where you got a set of oem front rotors and a set of good brakes pads for $90 total for a 97 c280 please
third off, my car has 16 spark plugs, 2 per cylinder, 8 cyc. multiplied by 2 plugs equals 16, do the math
fourth, I DO HAVE A REAL CF HOOD made by VIS, but the fitment is not great and has huge gaps/humps with the fenders, i thought of overlaying the stock hood to have perfect fitment to line up with the car and because I like the carbon fiber constrast on silver and as for the hood i prefer fashion over function, but thats just me.
Fifth, I am comparing it to a honda because the guy with the c280 said not all benz owners have a lot of money so I compared it to a civic owner.... is it not fair to say a guy with a decent benz has more money to spend than a guy that owns a 91 civic?
so with that said, can we please drop it. thanks

okay guys I wanted to drop this and yes can we please keep it clean and civil?
first off it would be "you're a bitch" meaning you are a bitch, not your a bitch as in that is your car or owning something.
also, you have a jdm 04 sti? I would love to see pics of that with RHD and everything, that would be the first one i have seen in the US. Also, you have a 04 jdm sti and a benz with headrest monitors and everything and you say you dont make a lot of money? Not only would the car be expensive, but also the fees to register a RHD car. Unless your parents are paying for it I do not see where you are getting all this money.
lets please drop this once again... thanks
