View Full Version : If we want to clean the intake

system, you have to spray a carb cleaner pass the MAS. My daugthers car had a lot of carbon on the plugs, so I put in a new set of Bosch duals plats, and a new PVC valve and then disconnected the intake hose behind the MAS and sprayed carb clearner into the throttle bod while she kept the engine running. this was about a month ago, I checked the plugs last weekend and they were clean, another thing I had her due was to use 89 octane instead of 87 octane, she told me it drives much better now. If you want to clean your intake ALWAYS start BEHIND the MAS, these devices are very sensitive especially to oils and cleaners. I know a guy with a BMW and it has a cold air intake with a KN, he oiled the shit out of it and then put in back on, within a couple hours his check engine lite went on and the car ran very rough, 2 days and $300US later he had a new MAS and a new K&N, I always use K&N replacement filters, the trick is to clean them once or twice a year, and re oil lightly. If you read and follow the directions they work fine. I've had my K&N on my 99 C280 for close to 2 years and no MAS problems. I did have the MAS replaced under warranty with the regular filter about a month after I got the car, warranty no cost.

yep the higher octane gas you use the better the engine runs I use 94 octane with platnium 4+ plugs runs great.

system is set to take advantage of higher octane fuel, which Mercedes, Audi and most high end cars especially European. But not necessarily American cars, in fact in her owners manual it specifically says not to use gasoline higher then 89 octane rating and 87 is recommended, but since she has used 87 she says her car runs much better. As far as plugs I don't know what Mercedes uses on the V6 I have, I do know it has 12 plugs and they are supposed to be good for 100K and I'll be dammed if I can figure out how to change them. I used plat 4 on a BMW I have, my son's Acura has Plat 4's now, my wife's 10 year old Audi has plat 4's and all have shown a increase in power, smoothness and just better running engines in all. The Plat 2 in my daughter's car made a big difference also, better mileage, power, etc.

run better, but I talked to the service adviser at the dealership and he said octane higher then 89 will burn the valves, We are talking a Dodge Neon here, with the standard OHC 4 banger, not the Neon SRT or any high end cars. Do I believe the service advisor, maybe, as the Neon is a cheaply put togerther car, comfortable to drive and ride, reliable, but cheaply made, so they might have plastic valves and rollers for all I know. I Europe Mercedes sells the Neon under the Dodge name, but changed the engine to the Mercedes 4 banger, the same one in the C classes, In that engine I would use 91, 92 or whatever. but no in the American version.

Just an information if you run the engine and spray after the MAS, does the engine itself run without problem (because af the MAS by-pass)? NO problem with car computer?

stall, that's way you need someone in the car pressing the accelerator pedal. As far as the MAS and the CPU, as long as you are on the other side of the MAS there shouldn't be a problem, however if you are thinking of doing this for more power, it's not going to happen. This procedure are for cars that have problems, my daugthers car's plugs and PCV valve were clogged and I only cleaned the throttle body as a precaution in case any of the built up carbon got into it. she was using the wrong octane gas and that's what carboned up these items. If you follow mfg specs on the octane rating and changed plugs when needed there is no reason to do this, if the car is not running correctly then it should go to a dealer. Her car is a Neon a simple car compared to a Mercedes, as you never know how these cars will react to any foreign substance in there engines.

Thanks a lot Benz Meister my car were fine a part a marginal minimum engine rev. so as an idiot I sprayed this kind of foam inside the suction, after the MAS but unfortunately part of the product come in contact with the MAS, also if the engine were running during all the work! I made a MAS failure, car stopped in the middle of the street. 530 Euro was the total bill (310 Euro only the new MAS). I was really depressed, this two week-ends ago.
thanks

My opinion on anything to do with the or near the MAS, if it ain;t broke, don't fix it cause it can cause ther MAS to fail. hehe

on my daughters car I use a aerasol carb clearner and moved the intake hose away from the MAS in her car. foam wasn't a good idea, I'm sorry to say. If you had an idle problem, how is it now since the MAS was replaced? What country do you live in. My brother has lived in the Netherlands for the past 25 years. He is 66 now and both his sons were educated there, married Dutch girls and moved back to the states. So my brother and his wife are planning to move back at the end of the year. I think he has empty nest syndrome and his health is not terrific, nothing serious, but I get the feeling from his emails medical care in Holland is not up to par?

Hi BenzMeister, thanks for your reply. With new MAS the engine run well as before, but the little, very very little irregular minimun rev. engine is still not perfect. Probably it's not a MAS matter.
I'm from Italy north est above Venice.

Beautiful country, I was in that area a long time ago, over 30 years, but as I remember it was beautiful and the food, fantastic, not all that red sauce like in southern Italy.
What model is your C Class again. Try another brand of gasoline and see if that works, if you can in Italy. My brother tells me in the Netherlands there is not competition, he said Shell and BP are the big players.

Yes thanks I'm quite happy to be here, near the sea and very close to the mountain also. Further beautiful landscape are also very achieveable. Food is really at satisfaction of every taste.
Mine is a kompressor but 1998cc dedicated to Italian market. It has the same performances of the C230 k (only 1 HP less). Really happy of it. Here we have really a variety of gasoline brand. I'll try.
Hi:)

a Kompressor, model Mercedes, but I have owned other supercharged cars, and they can had a finicky idle, due to the nature of the intake. In addition have you changed your air filter recently. Many years ago a company I worked for gave their salemen Chrysler's and the one I had was supercharged, never ran smooth, but this was in the 80's and Chrysler never did get these models right. Good luck and maybe someday, I'll treat my wife to a vacation in Norhtern Italy. Keep me posted on your car.

Thanks BenzMeister, probably, as you suggest may be the air filter. But it has ab. 20000 Km not so much, at least as per MB criteria:rolleyes:
Hoping You'll have the chance for a new vacation here in Italy.:)
