I have a 97 with the new headlights that uses a H7 bulb. I had a 96 with the old headlights that used H4? bulb. I think the old style headlights did much better with stock bulbs than the new style.

I put SilverStar H7 bulbs in my 97 and I thought they were improved, but not as good as the old 96 with stock bulbs.

yes the bulb size between the H7 and H3 is the big difference the H3 in older than 1997 is twice the size of the H7which is newer than 1997

With the older style headlight there is much more light to the side of the car, which is helpful when looking for a house number or something else off to the side.

Maby the "new and improved" headlight "concentrates" the beam in-front of the car to use the available lumens to illuminate the road.

I have read that HID Xenon headlights act this way also, as there is very little "scatter" or light to the sides.

id maybe pay 5 bucks for an "upgrade" that looks like that.... I have some of the aftermarket "hid look" bulbs they are like a bluish white. they were like 20 bucks and i get compliments all the time, they look great! go with sumthin like that... plus visibility is a whole lot better!
