Question for peeps with Euro trunk lid...

I installed my euro trunk lid yesterday.. I needed to make a bracket to hold my stock plate though.. so I did that tonight. but it didnt turn out that nice at all.. I was just wondering what you guys used to hold your regular license plate over top of your Euro plate?? I need to make something more permanent than what I have.

I just drilled new holes on my license plate so I could use the stock screws/mounts on the trunk.

well that would work!! so you arent using a license plate frame then. just plate sitting on top of plate!
its a bit crude but hey it works.. I may do that.

I dont like plastic frames.... so yeah its just trunk>euro plate>issused plate

I think its illegal to drill holes in state issured plates.. but eh... it works :bunny:

In Toronto, I don;t think it's illegal. You can even cut down the plate to remove the 'yours to discover' if you want too..just make sure ''Ontario' and the numbers are there.

I have a licence plate frame wich does not uses any screws to incert the Plate on, There for you only have to drill the back of the licence plate frame for it to fit it into the euro trunk lid...

In Washington state, the RCW code for front plates also states that you can not use a plate issued by another government. This obivously varies from state to state, but if your planning on having a euro plate anywhere on your car, be aware that you could be issued a citation for. Also, the same RCW code strickly prohibits the use of any plate cover, painting of the plate or modification (cutting). Other states may have similar laws, be sure to check before you commit.

a friend of mine got pulled over twice for having a plastic cover (spokane), they used it as a means to pull over a kid and look around. lucky he did not get cited either time.

Well I drilled holes in my plate this morning to mount it.. looks pretty good.

How much was it? Painting cost? What about trunk handle and IR sensor? How did you install it, indie shop, dealer, yourself? Are there specific years that they sell for/ fit?

The trunk lid was $350 canadian (my cost price), to paint, I dont know how much that was.. I havent paid for that yet.. I just gave it to the guy that works at the mercedes body shop and he painted it for me.. still have to settle the bill!! the trunk "handle" was I think $60 or 70 my cost (already painted) no ir sensor needed.
I installed it myself... very easy install job.
and yes there are specific years.. well 2 different versons really.. the first version is for the 94-97 or 98 W202.. then there was a model updated lid for the 99-00...

Yeah i have a 98 and i was thinking it was updated.

I used to have a 1995 and it was pre updated and they look diffrent
