Hi All,

I bought 96 C36 a few months ago and the previous owner had removed the OEM stereo and replace the entire system. I am now trying to return the car to stock (appearance) and have purchased an OEM radio (CM2396) and a Apline CHM-S601 with a BlitzSafe Adapter. The problem is that the radio doesn't recognize the changer. I plugged in the radio into my friends 98 E320 with an OEM changer and all worked fine. So this elimiates the headunit. I also plugged the CD Changer into my 94 C280 and it worked fine....so this eliminates the changer. The only part left is the adapter. The only clue that I have is that the BlitzSafe adpater says "MBALPV,2A2 Mercedes L94-97"(was originally purchansed in 97). According to BlitzSafe's website, it should work with the CM2396 by providing the proper "handshake" protocol. As a last ditch effort I'm wondering if there is someone who has a 96-97 car so I can plug this thing in and see if works. This is to see if, on a longshot, this adapter doesn't work on a 98 radio which might be what I have. Thanks.

What is the model of your radio and what is the number on the adapter?

mbsickness, I think I have my stock radio lying around somewhere. I have a '97 c-class. You are welcome to try it and see if corrects the issue. I'm in the Santa Clara area. Just let me know.

I had the stock headunit also with an alpine cd changer. I went to several different audio shops and they said the only way you can have both working at the same time was with a fm modulator. After having that for a month, i decided it wasnt worth it and bought a motorized tv for my headunit. If you need a stock headunit or alpine 6 disk cd changer willign to sell for realllllllllllllllllly cheap!

Thanks for the offer. On my way home tonight I'm going to try and plug the thing into my buddy's 98 E320 to see what happens. I work in Palo Alto, so I'm sure I could swing by sometime.

Okay, here is where things get crazy. So as before the Headunit works in my buddy's 98 E320 with an OEM CD changer. Last night I plugged the Alpine CD changer into the same car and it worked just fine. Today I plugged the Alpine changer into another friends car, 98 C230, and it worked just fine. The only conclusion I can come to is that the CM2396 is somehow not compatable with the Blitzsafe converter. So I think my only solution is to either get a different headunit or a different adapter.

I have a 97' stock head unit and my cd changer randomly broke a few weeks ago. The cartridge got stuck from ejecting and I get error codes now. I was thinking about selling both the hu and the changer if I can't find a changer for cheap. Let me know if you're interested.
