OK, here's the senario. I have been offered either C36 or C43 front calipers at very very reasonable prices. Both are used. Which ones should I go for? Any difference between the 2 systems? Is one more desireable than the other? Will it be an easy DIY and a direct bolt on? Only the calipers were offered to me. What will new rotors set me back?

Edit: any difference between the 1995 vs 1996 vs 1997 C36 calipers?

C43 Rotors = ~$200/ea

If I recall correctly, the C36 brakes are a four piston caliper while the C43 is a two piston. I cannot comment on which one is better, but I think they are similar in terms of braking power and such.

I have read that thread extensively... I was first gonna do the C32 conversion until I found these C36 and C43 calipers. Has anyone driven both cars and can give a fair comparison? I'm leaning towards the C36 calipers right now, but can be swayed...

Isn't the C43's brake setup a floating caliper or something like that?

You should keep this in mind because you have to replace the rotors someday.

True that. But if I were to go for a big brake kit, I would have to replace those rotors as well.

I guess the cost breakdown will be as follows:

Calipers: $50 X 2
rotors: $200 x 2
SS brake lines: $100
brake pads: $120

$720 total. Worth it?

The C43 front calipers are lighter than the C36 calipers and the clamping force is stronger, which equates into a shorter stopping distance.

The weight savings plus better stopping power should be enough to convice you to go with the C43 calipers/rotors
