I inquired about lowering my vehicle a 99' c280 sport from a local shop out here in Northern Va. Indicated that book states that it is an 8 hr job. Multiplying that with the an $ 85.00 labor rate, that would be a lot of money just to replace springs and or spring pads. Is this a fair amount of time to work on these cars.

Anyone live in this area that can recommend someone least expensive?

thanks

if you have already all the parts, it all depends on the shop, i paid 150 at a local shop, it does not take a mercedes tech to install springs, take it to someone cheaper....

thanks , yes I will have all parts on hand . $150 is a very reasonable price but paying close to 700 isnt.

Anyone out there know of a shop out here in northern va that can do for less?

Why would you drop a 280 sport... It has a lower sport suspention?

Doesnt seem lowered to me. My wife drives a w210 e320 and her car sits lower than mine or should I say the gap between the tires and wheelwell is much closer than the c280 i have

I just put a 18x9 rims with a 225/40 tires and it look nice.. If you drop your 280 and keep the original 16 rims the car will look funny..this is just my opinion.

8 hr job?? hardly... take it to a shop that knows what they're doing. And don't ever let anyone try to charge you more just because "it's a Benz" My shop charged me 2 hours for my H&R's, 2 for my Bilsteins when I brought it in another time. But that's cuz they lowered a handful of W202's before. Don't forget, you can also adjust the ride height with the OEM spring pads.... not much, but enough to see a difference.

btw, lowered on 16's doesn't look funny. 18's and riding high looks stupid, imho... so go get lowered first, worry about wheels later.

Thanks for all your inputs.

I have just installed my wheels . My car is now riding on 225/45/17 on 17x by 8.25 with 34 mm offset MB evolution wheels. I will definitely need to lower the car and probably add a half inch spacer for the rears. Biggest obstacle for me now is finding a reasonable shop owner to do it.

Is there a special tool needed to remove these springs? Or is a regular spring compressor adequate to do the job.

word of advice, when you go to take your car to get lowered, put on stock wheels, the guyz might damage your wheels, mine were

thanks for the advice c280JR. Yeah, i know exactly what you mean when people mishandle someone elses wheels.

Based on what i've read , Is it safe to say that the 99 c280 sports have pad #4 all around? Or can a a production date make a difference on the set up's? Thanks in advance for any input

well, they just scratched the paint off, so i told them i want them re done, but my wheels were two toned, and now the one wheel is only one color...but either way, its still better than what i did with it, when trying to make the lip more poslihed so its all good
