View Full Version : I fu(ked up installing my w210 mirrors! Need Help

Ok, I decided to install my W210 mirors tonight. I tought that with the thread (http://www.club202.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59) I would be fine...

Start by removing the original mirrors, door cards and various interior trim to make installation easier.
That part wasn't bad, except that I broke one clip from the passenger side handle. Even after, the clip was still stuck there and with pliers it took 10 minutes to pull it out. I'll see how I can still put the handle back in place. It seems easy to remove interior trim pieces when you did it once, but the first time it's a challenge to find where clips are, where bolts are, how to pull/pry parts, etc. I finally figured that out.

Once removed you can then run the green and yellow wires from the power folding harness from the center console to each doors.
Yeah that was an easy part.

While running the wires its a good time to run the blinking wires up the doors to save time. On the MY 1995 we used for installation we've tapped the Black/White and Black/Green wires for the blinking portion. If you are unsure as to which wires colour your car uses for the blinking to the rear lights use a multimeter to figure out which wires you will need to use.
Well, this doesn't tell me which pins goes for blinking. I know the 5 pins rectangular connector is for adjusting and the round connector for the rest, but which pins are for the blinking and which ones for the folding?

The long blue wire on the folding mirror switch needs to be run to the fuse box located on the drivers side of the engine compartment.
This one is ok, my wire isn't blue, but doesn'T matter, anybody can figure this out.

On the wire harness there is a brown wire that needs to be grounded.
This is easy also

Next find the blue/purple illumination wire and tap that off an existing blue/purple wire to provide illumination for the switch.
Also easy

Now the fun part;)
Since it was getting late and I had all this trouble finding where to connect the green and yellow wires for the folding, plus I had no clue which pins were for the blinking so I could connect them to my blinkers, I decided to pack up and wait tomorrow to finish and get answers from either Steve or a friendly person here at club202...

So I decide toleave everything as is. Except I did not reconnect my old mirror. I leave, and the cars was always locking and unlocking the door. I stopped about 10 minutes later to plug the old mirror and it stopped.

Now at home, my doors won't lock/unlock with the remote or the console button, the trunk won't open from remote or center console. When I press the unlock from the remote, my flasher blinks once as usual (altough teh doors are are still locked). When I press the lock button, the 3 usual blinks don't work.. and the doors don't lock.

Probably the computer got error codes and it needs to be resetted.

There are my many questions:
1- Which pin the green go
2- Which pin the yellow go
3- Which pin(s) for blinking?
4- Is it possible that my problems are because I rolled without the mirror or it might be something else?
5- Can I reset the error codes myself or I need to make a fool of myself at the stealership?

Connectors from the car:

Connectors from the old mirrors, note that there are two wires that goes to the mirror on the first picture but don't have a matching wire in the mirror on the picture below.

That's the w210 connector...

I got questions 1 2 and 3 answered.

connect the grey/blue one (illumination) to whatever other grey/blue one you
can find ( a hole bunch of those on the leftside of the tunnel)

brown - always! ground - on the grounding stud under the seat

yellow and green go to the yellow and green wires in the mirror (although
they might be black on the newer 210 mirrors)...pos 5 and pos 6 of the oval
8pin connector on the miror...
The wiring from mirror to A-pillar has to be added by yourself

black/blue with the big copper connector - fusebox - see the fuse
designation for power folding mirrors

blinking wires:
black/white on the driver side...check for blinking power first and then
splice into it
black/green on the pass side...same here

Now I need help for 4 and 5..

I'll probably go pay the dealer today to get it resetted and then buy a ODB2 scanner to reset them myself next time.

Stolen from Steve the man:

the connector at the mirro is numbered...

1 & 2 are heated glass
3, 4 and 5 are for mirror adjusting

1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 sit in the exact same order as the wires in the oldstyle mirror sit (as in black-red...brown...and then the grey/white/black)

6 and 7 are always colored (black-white and brown) and are for the blinker

8 is empty

9, 10, 11 & 12 are memory - you don't need those

13 & 14 are folding (green and yellow)

15 & 16 are dimming (pink-black & pink-red)

I think I sorted it out.

Since I don't have dimming, no pins 7 and 8 on the round connector.
Teh only thing I need to find out is why my car has already green and yellow wires and where they are going.

some (well most) US spec cars come with all possible options and therefor the wiring harnesses used in the doors are full optioned as well and thus with wiring for folding feature...

these wires go from mirror to A pillar bottom where they are inserted in a connector into which counterconnector the green and yellow wires from the additional wire harness have to be inserted.

folding wires - pos 5 and pos 6 of oval shaped connector...

blinking wire ground is brown
blinking wire positive is black/white

the color for folding mirror power varies per model and modelyear...black/blue is the color used mostly...

Got news from the stealer.

I blew a module either when testing the connector that goes to the mirror or by putting back the mirror while the car was running. Either way, the module blew and it costs a mere 1200$ CAD to replace, plus labor

So my bling bling mirrors will be a 1500$ USD mod. I think the pulley will wait a little.

Lousy stealership here they cant seem to locate the part number for the oval connectors. Can anybody remember the part no?

And if I use the w210 blinking folding mirror harness for sure it can connect directly to the mirrors but will the other end of the harness be compatible and can be connected to my w202 where the old mirror harness is connected?

Thanks guys

on my car I had a round connector on the drivers side, no connector on the pass. side.

I don't have the number written down and I don't want to remove my mirror since it's pretty fragile connections.

The actual pins you have in the connector will be directly the same in the new mirror (i.e. the auto dimming)

I don't remember, but the easiest thing to do is to use a little test light

you just have to test the wires to find the one youw ant

thats not it, there are 3 black and green wire on the passanger side, One goes to the door, other to the speaker.

The one you want (blinking one) is under the Door sill, you got to kind of dig for it, its the same thickness as the black and white one you tapped on the drivers side, use a test light if you are not sure.

the green wire already wired into your car will be the optional folding wire which will connecto to a plug under the sill.

I gotta bump this up.

These wires Steve MBenzNL is talking about are the ones you can see when you remove the side mirrors
