would it be a harm to put a K&N air filter on my C230K since the MAF sensor is not directly connected to the air box, but the intercooler?

Dear ryhi,

also me was really interested in this time ago, consider that mine is a 1998 cc kompressor, that is really similar (1 HP less) to your C230 K. But after several negative consideration I've heard I preferred to leave the stock one.

Seems that performance filter are not so usefull in kompressor unit. I've read time ago a comparative test (it was a home made site on a BMW, the result was that factor filter seems also better!).

I've to admit that I've read positive result on this kind of filter (i.e. K&N in particular) but because of lot of different opinion on this and the really minimum benefit in term of performances, if any;) , I preferred to keep it stock.

This is my opinion.

Further, I've heard of risk of MAS damage if re-oil procedure is not done well. Leave the oil that dry completly before re-install. Otherwise MAS will be damaged. MAS is really very easy to damage.

Hoping that this will be usefull for you.

Waiting for other, probably positive opinion, please keep us informed.

One wonders if there is a real world advantage to the so-called "performance " filters. Case in point: one of the G35Driver.com guys dynoed his G35 with and without the stock filter element. There was only a 1.5 HP difference. Thus, the gain from a performance filter would be somewhere in between.
