Since we drive 202's i'm sure you all are familiar with the crazy brake dust that can occur minutes after a nice wash and wax. The OEM pads work fine, but just cake on the crud in massive amounts.

Per recommendation by many members here and on bnzsport, I finally swapped in PBR Deluxe pads front and rear.

And I have to say the brakes work fine, but the major difference is the SIGNIFICANT reduction in brake dust!

Prior, I could start seeing dust after driving a few miles after a wash.

Now, it has been almost three weeks and I have yet to see any noticeable dust on the rims.

Geez, this is just great. I have no idea how long these pads will last, but so far they are great for this superficial reason :bunny:

Best thing i've done for the car as of late :D Highly recommended!

some of these dust-free brake pads are very hard( they do not wear up quickly) may eat up your brake discs so beware.

yupe EBC pad especially...know for that..

I picked PBR because in the past they used to be supplier for OE brake pad on many European car...

The PBR deluxe I have
The pad bite about the same as OEM except 95% less dust, and it has all the proper hole for brake sensor unlike some other good brand (Porterfield R4S)

I specifically bought the PBRs because Junaidi suggested them a while back. I trust his experience :D

Gotta love bumping old relevent threads!

I'm going to buy Axxis (Axxis/PBR/Repco) deluxe brake pads for the front and rears for my stock caliper c230 kompressor, based off the great testimonials on the forums for the significant reduction of brake dust, and near OE stopping. However, when shopping for pads, the front pads all appear the same, but 4 different possible for the rears; a version with one pin and a version with two pins:

-A 487047 = confirmed without ASR (one pin?)
-F 576240 = confirmed without ASR (two pins?)
A 487048- (one pin?)
F 576241- (two pins?)

one pin:

two pins:
http://www.zeckhausen.com/images/Pads/Shapes/D495.jpg

to summarize, my question is, "what is the significance between the four chassis versions?" I've called the stealership, and they're pretty certain that my car has the single pin pads in the rears based off of my VIN number.

I think i've got it narrowed down to the "-A" and "-F" as cars without the ASR function, and the other "A" and "F" are the ones that have that function. is there any correlation with the A or F to VIN number, or does it relate to the number of pins? Or does it actually relate to AMG and non-AMG rotors? The VIN number on my car begins with:

WDBHA24G4XA680_ _ _

From this, I was under the impression that with "A" following the "WDBH" would suggest it was my chassis model. This wouldn't be such a problem if I was in the same part of the country as my car. I need to order pads without actually seeing the old pads is where this trouble all started ;)

From what your VIN is, Im pretty sure you will want the single pin rear pads A487048- (one pin), this means that on your VIN WDBHA24G4XA680_ _ _, the last 7 digits is what youre looking at. what year is your car just to verify? was it 1996 and newer had ASR up to 1999, then 2000 was ESP?
at any rate Im pretty sure you will need the A487048- (one pin), by going from your vin and you thinking you have ASR.

just to add, I wasnt impresed with the PBR dustless pads I have in my car now. yes they do offer a hell of a lot less dust then stock.. you rarely have to clean the wheels!!.. but as for stopping ability. Im not impressed with that at all. Id rather have OEM pads and dust then have no dust and insuffient braking power. they also chew up your rotors really nice too.. the compound is so hard.

I don't lknow which one of the PBR that you have.
But all of them dustless than OEM.

There are 3 different material.

1. PBR/Axxiss Ultimate.
For more performance application.

2. PBR/Axxiss Metal Master. Also dustless compare to the OEM pad.

3. PBR/Axxiss Deluxe plus.
The most rotor friendly of all. Has softer material. and the least dust,

Here is the comparison. http://www.zeckhausen.com/axxis_pads.htm#Compare

One thing about the Metal Master compare to the Deluxe plus is that the pad bite is less when it is cold, and it is not rotor friendly (harder compound material).

I have used the Deluxe Pads probably since 10 years ago and have no complain. I even have them on my 400 hp M5, and stopping power is the same as OEM (Still able to stop the car on a dime). However Deluxe plus is not intended for track use, as it is not as fade resistance as other.
Off course you always better off using a dedicated track pad. (This is what also recommend if you tracking your car, before shopping around for BBK, switch to higher boiling point of brake fluid and upgrade to track pad. Track pad are generally need to get warmed up to be able to perform its best)

But if you looking for street pad, that perform like OEM, but without the dust and noise, get the PBR/Axxiss Deluxe plus.

"PBR/Axxiss Deluxe plus" is an improvement over "PBR/Axxis Deluxe"

awesome! thank you for the help.

@slammed C - yes, my car is a '99 c230k and it does have ASR. i've heard they're actually pretty rotor friendly; are you sure you're using the deluxe and not the ceramics?

@J irwan - i've only seen the axxis deluxe -- where can i find the deluxe plus?

I've been running PBR Deluxe for the longest time for most of the people's cars I work on, including my own. They're great!

any recommendation on brake fluid upgrade, or is there not much need? not looking to track my car, but i'm ordering the pads all around with stoptech stainless steel lines.

zeckhausen recommends a good quality DOT4 fluid (ATE TYP200).

anyone recommend troutman over stoptech brake lines? if so, why?
