Hi guys,

My wiper is still making a wierd noise. I have oiled the shaft which stretches the wiper out, but this has not resolved.

I need some instructions on how to get to the Wiper Mechanism (I am hoping there is something else I can lubricate).

There was a post on BS, but obviously this is now lost forever, sorry for the repeat.

Thanks

Not to worry, have seen what I need on MBenz's site.

I used MBenz's Documentation (http://members.lycos.nl/mbenz/windshield_wiper.htm) to get me started.

The first pair of grils come out easy.

The second is more tricky, and some of the centre clips are a killer to get off. It would be far easier if MB made this section in 2 parts!

I only went as far as this:

From here with the wiper running, I could see the linkages moving about. I used WD-40 (it fixes everything right?) to lubriacte all the moving joints.

However, this proved of no use. The noise made is very aparent from outside, but not loud enough to be heard from inside the car.
The noise is a sort of mechanical whirring noise, like an old Washing (laundry) machine.

I guess it is the wiper motor itself.

Is the motor and mechanism one part or are they available separately? - pic at bottom

Is replacement a unbolt old an bolt on new job, or is alignment required?

Maybe someone can diagnose better from the Sound (http://www.gsbweb.btinternet.co.uk/wipernoise.wav)

I just replaced my wiper motor..turns out it's the bolt that connects the mechanism to the motor that was loose..oh well..it's another $150 mistake...and of course i don't put on my Mechanix gloves until AFTER I cut my hand..arg...i also basically broke 1/2 of the clips holding in the plastic panel..hehe..

then i tightened the bolt with the wiper in the middle position, so I made it look like steve's wiper by accident..so i had to take it apart again...

and then on the way home, my wiper stops again..i think it came loose..should i use some locktite or something on the threads?

I am not sure on the fitting details. My garage fitted a new motor for me (under warrany :D ).
