I just wanted to let everyone know that after much thought
and debate about installing K&N filters on my C43, I did put
them in and it's been about a month now and no problems at
all. The car accellerates better for sure. I will let you know if I
have any type of negative experience with these.

Two years for me on the 43. I am replacing the MAS of my own free will, got a great deal on it. :) I suspect my MAS needed to be replaced before I even got the car. I bought it with 67K miles on it, so it was about the time where a new one would help.
Anyway, the car has been running well with the K&N's. Slowly, performance has slipped, but actual cause is not certain.

C280, no problems, however I did have a check engine light last week, so before I went to the dealer to have it fixed I took out the k&N and installed the MB filter, turns out the light was a O2 sensor and nothing to do with the intake, soon as I got home I put the K&N back in. I have read to really get the best performance disconnect the negative ground terminal which will default the computer and when you reconnect and run the engines the computer will adjust faster to the extra air, as I said I never tried this and don't recommend as there are too many things to reset., windows, sunroof, esp, radio code, etc. IMHO K&N's do make a difference. All the cars in the family have one, my wife 94 Audi, my sons Intregra my Mercedes and even my daughters Neon, and all of them run better. At 50K I am seriously thinking of changing to Plus 4 plat spark plugs, but my V6 has 12 plugs and the job is kind of techy to do I hear.:)

HI,
Just put the K & N in my C-43 as well. There has been a lot of negative opinions on doing this, but I've had them in every car I've owned for the past 12 years and never encountered a problem.

Same here never had a problem with any type of K&N filter or filter system. I was watching German DTM series sedan racing a while back on SPEED TV, there was a shot inside the Mercedes Garage, one of the cars had the hood up and low and behold there right in front of the engines was the biggest K&N type filter I have ever seen. Nascar, Champ, F1, drag racing all use them or the same type by other manufacturing. Why there is negative opinion, people tend to put too much oil on them when they cleam them, in the case of K&N less is better or the try to rush the cleaning and not let the filter dry or absorb the oil properly. I have a spare, when I clean my K&N's it takes at least a day in warm weather. I keep all the regular filters for the other family members cars and replace them when I clean their K&N's.

Many SLK owners with the same engine as the C230k also have the K&N and no problem
I'm wondering why many doesn't recommend it here

folks who buy these filters, don't follow the cleaning and re-oiling direction. A mechanic friend of my told me one day a fellow came to his shop with a BMW 325 and said it was leaking oil. The owner had installed a KN Cold Air Intake and when he cleaned it she sprayed the entire can of oil on the filter and the oil was dripping on the ground, eventually you had to change the MAS and have the TB cleaned. This is why people don't recommend them as they probably screwed up cleaning it and don't want to admit it.

It's amazing what you can learn by reading an instruction manual.
By the way, what city in Quebec do you live?

Hi,
I've been up there a number of times. I really love Montreal.
I sold a Montreal buddy of mine a nice black Alfa GTV about ten years ago. He claims he still drives it around the city.
Have a good summer,
