View Full Version : Harness for aftermarket head unit
I have read elsewhere on this site that there is a harness for installing aftermarket head units in VW's that can be used in our W202's. I just want to make sure that I get the right one. I have a '98 C280 w/ Bose that I am changing out for aftermarket stuff. Metra Electronics lists several on thier website for VW'shttp://www.metraonline.com/
Can someone confirm the correct part # that I will need? I guessing it is p#70-1784 - (VOLKSWAGEN 1987-UP - INTO CAR).
Is this correct?

yup, thats the right one, but if you are installing an aftermarket headunit, you are going to need an amp interface for the bose sys. oh yeah don't forget the ant. adapter.;) :)

on my 99 you do not need an amp interface, it will wrk fine without, all you need is the wiring harness and ant adapt. you may on older models not sure bout 98 but my guess is that its teh same as mine in which case you do not need one...
I will be bypassing the whole factory system--everything will be replaced. If I'm thinking right the only wires that I will need to tap into in the harness will be--
-12v constant
-12v switched
-12v turn on for my amps
-ground
-illumination
on my '98 C280 Sport the antenna is concealed (in the rear bumper I think) is this type of antenna boosted (powered)? Does any power run to it or do I only need the antenna adaptor?
