Major improvement in illumination level as can be seen in the before and after photos. Please pardon the low-quality pictures, they were taken on 2 successive nights.

Installation was very easy, took me about 5 hours on a lazy Saturday. Didn't even need to bend the clips that hold the bulb in place, they fit right in.

As for the glare concern, my headlight housing uses H1 bulbs with a glare shield in front of the bulb. No glare was noted after I had adjusted the beam properly.

I realize of course that OEM is much better but the cost (for me) is too much so I took a chance with a kit. Turned out OK for me because my H1's come with a glare shield and the light center distance from the base is identical with the rebased lamp.

where did you get the kit and who makes it?

Really nice. There is now little need to turn the high beams on. The HIDs spread a fan of white light in front of me and well to the sides, as can be seen in the photos. As soon as I figure our how to take a decent shot of the beam cut-off pattern I will post it. It is almost the same as when I had halogen bulbs on. Help Kameraguy!

I bought it from HID-online in UK. It cost $494 postpaid. The bulbs are made by Philips and the ballast by Hella. The wiring harness is top-notch and is long enought to permit mounting the ballast in the stock position under the fender.

Unfortunately it is ILLEGAL to install HID kits in the USA so you fellows there will have to spring for the OEM or Bekker's units to get HID. Prior to the xenon kit I tried OSRAM SilverStars and Philips VisionPlus. Some improvement seen, but nothing like this.

I also installed an hid kit for my 1999 c230. The cut off beam isnt the best but gives alot of light output. Basically its the same pattern as the oem bulb but just 10 times brighter. If you look at other hid equipped cars, the cutoff beam is a straight line when facing a wall,......doesn't look like yours has that, neither does mine. Overall a big improvement and I was also in a position where i did not want to spend a lot of money on lights.

The only problem i have is the light failure icon. This stays on everytime i turn on my headlights. Did this happen to you as well?

Yes, the 'bulb-out' indicator is lit. I intend to shunt a 1K resistor across the old bulb lead and ground and see if that will draw sufficient current to fool the continuity sensor.

Let me know if it works out...
