trany hums in the rain

i have a 97 c280 sport. when i drive in the rain for a while i get a sound like the car is stuck in gear. it gets realy loud. this happen 2 anyone before??

This only happens in the rain??? Maybe you need to change your tranny fluid.

but why would it only do it in the rain?? a transmition is sealed water doesnt get in. is there any vacum line on the trany?

Are you sure it's the transmission, or the tires ;)

In the rain, I hear a distinct hum which is not present in dry conditions. After a while I figured out it was the tires I had on the car.

it does it with both my tires. i run the stock 15s in the winter and 18s in the summer.

That's what I mean....it's probably your tires making the hum in the rain, not the tranny. Different tread patterns can cause more or less noise in the wet :)

Unless you are saying you never heard this sound in the rain until recently....

it started about a month ago.i know its not the tires because ive had them for a while.

my car use to 'hum' in the rain. got worse until it started to hum when it wasn't raining. My problem was the welds on the cats where deterioating. Had them replaced under emissions warranty no more hum.
