LED's are out on my cluster. I took it to the dealership and they said I need a new unit. They said they will put the mileage back to my original mileage. There's 3-4 week backorder for the unit. Now what if I buy my own unit from ebay. How do I deal with the mileage discrepency and not get accused of odometer tampering?

It's a 2000 C230K.
I don't think is the bulbs because parts of the bars are working and some are out.
There's a cluster for sale now on ebay that will work but I am just afraid of the mileage situation.

My friend has the 2000 c230 also and he had the same problem. Changing the bulbs MIGHT work but it didn't for him and he had to go with the new unit. Good luck...

I am going with a new unit but I want to know how the odometer works. Is the information on the cluster itself or the information is on the car's computer. If I install a new/used cluster will the odometer read my original mileage?

I had the same thing happen with me 2 times already. I've got a 2000 C230 Komp. First time was with the odometer and second was the gear indicator. MB techs had always replaced the instrument cluster. Thankfully car was still under warranty. Good Luck
