I think W210 door handles are paintable. Am I right? I want to paint its in silver.

just take your current handle, go to a good body shop and ask them to sand it down real nice, primer, and then paint it.

One problem!! I'm from another country and I'm not sure if anybody can do it in my country. Is it easy to do??

I have OEM, factory painted, non-chrome door handles that match my body color. The W208, W210 and W202 all share the same door handles. All the trim pieces can be ordered that way including the lock cover and infared sensor pieces. I think ordering OEM is easier than taking the handles off and painting them, plus it's not that expensive. One caveat, you will need to order these parts from Europe as only European cars had these parts. I will snap some pics and get the part numbers tonight and post them here.

How much is it??

Steve (MbenzNL) hand delivered my parts to me and I have yet to pay him for these parts. Don't quote me on this, but I think the cost is somewhere in the $60-$80 range (4 handles, infared sensor cover, lock cover).

60-80$$ for four handles or each?? how can i find him???

dwang

$60-$80 was for the 4 handles. I think the infared cover and the lock cover piece were additional (don't know how much). But like I said, don't quote me on the price!! I got these handles at the beginning of the year when the exchange rate was very favorable to the US dollar, the Euro was at parity with the Dollar (1 dollar=1 Euro). Right now, $1 dollar is only worth .8417 Euros, a 16% devaluation of the dollar.

Steve can get just about any euro spec MB car part. You can contact Steve by emailing him at: s_krabbenborg@hotmail.com I believe he is travelling from California to the Netherlands today... So be patient with him.

I will get you the part numbers tonight so that you can email him with the parts request.

The whole install took about 10 minutes. All you need is a 4mm, extra long hex wrench (allen key/imbus tool).

Part numbers for door handles:

210 760 12 70 9040 (rear door handles X 2)

208 760 00 70 9040 (front door handles X 2)

210 766 03 56 9040 (rear door coverlet X 2)

208 760 09 77 9040 (Driver's side door lock cover)
*this piece is comprised of the electrical unit and the cover. The painted cover piece could not be ordered alone like on the W203s. So to install, you have to remove the cover on your old lock and replace it with the painted piece. The whole lock does not have to be replaced*

I can't seem to find the p/n for the infared cover... I'll keep checking around for the bag.

I might have the front and rear door handle numbers mixed up, but I'm 99.9% sure they are correct as W208 do not have rear door handles. I do not know why there is a 9 in front of the color code. My car color code is 040 (flat black, non metallic) and as you can see, the part number has the number 9 preceding the color code (last 4 digits of the part number). Hope this helps. Pictures are being uploaded from the camera to the computer and they will be up later tonight.

hey dwang, these part #'s fit the w202's? (1997?) HOe much you think the dealer charges for these?

dwang

Rocky,
Yes these part numbers fit the 202, all 202s for that matter. I gave ExSLKboy my old OEM non-painted, non-chrome 202 door handles and they fit his car just fine. I have a 1999 202 and he has a 1994 202. The 202, 208, 210 and 163 (fronts only) all share the same door handles. IIRC, someone here asked their US dealer for the parts but the dealer could not find them in their parts directory and could not order them. These painted door handles are Euro Spec (Elegance 210 versions only, I think?). So this might be a task for our friends on the other side of the pond. I think the cost for all the parts is under $100 USD.

Here is a pic (I had to get a shot of the bling bling mirrors!):

Thanks dwang.

One thing to note though. I only have a key hole on the passenger side. The driver side has that infrared thingie.

Baur

Thanks dwang!! But i've the same... i have no key hole on the drivers side.

So let me get this striaght... Both Baur (1998 202) and Rocky (1997 202) only have an infared sensor on the driver's side door? You both do not have key lock holes on driver's side? I wonder if the side swapping thing occurred between 1998 and 1999. I do not think that this would pose a problem as the door handles and coverlets are not side specific (meaning that left side can swap with right side and vise versa). So I would think that all you would have to do is to order the same pieces and swap sides.

The color code for Brabus' car in the picture should be 744 (brilliant silver).

Dwang, are you sure that left side can swap with right side?? I'm ordering it now.

dwang
06-06-2003, 08:26 AM
I cannot be 100% positive... Please do not hold me responsible if something doesn't fit correctly. You can ask your dealer and they should be able to tell you if it fits.

But since there are no left and right side codes (all the handles are one part number), I would have to say that the parts are interchangeable.

Baur

So let me get this straight.

In fact it's the exact same handles, but paintable? or they get pre painted?

These handles are the same exact handle as on your current 202, but are pre painted by the factory (you can order according to your car color). There is no chrome on it either (for those who don't have a sports model).
