Purchase Extra ECU?

I'm planning to add a performance chip to my 1995 C220 in the near future (after new exhaust). On my car you need to remove the ECU and send it in.

Before I do that I was wondering if purchasing an extra ECU from a salvage part dealer (not too bad $$) may be a good idea. This would give me an option to retain the stock ECU if needed later for resale (or issue resolution).

I'm just getting started with enhancing my 202 and I'm new to this.

Is the ECU simple to remove and replace?

I would just keep your stock ECU. Also there is going to be a way to alter the fuel settings on our cars that will not require a chip and only costs around $120?.

Is it some sort of "piggy back" device? I believe my ECU is too old to be flashed.

Is it something we hook to our cars that lets up change the octane setting to 93 ?

It is a piggyback fuel controller that will allow you to set the air/fuel mixture to optimum. This will be a hugh advantage.

It will not allow changing the ignition timing setting. But by having the fuel correct you should not run into as much ignition pull back due to knock as you have now, and you do have that now and maybe are not aware of it.
