i have a 95 C220 and i wanted to get some ideas on what kind of stereo i should put in. i just need ideas for speakers and a head unit cuz i dont wanna blow my eardrums out. does anyone have a Mcintosh head unit? theyre hard to come by but does that mean theyre good? how about the Blaupunkts, are they any good? also what speakers have the best clarity? prices dont matter as long as my cash would be well spent.. (on a sidenote) a buddy of mine spent about $1500 on a system which has a sony xplode head unit and rockford subs and speakers but my dad's stereo in his S500 still sounds better!haha.

I know that MB quart speakers sounds the best to me. A good Head unit to me is a clarion unit.

did you have any particular stereos in mind, brand preference? for $1200 for the system, you can pretty much count out mcintosh , they are obsecnely expensive.:)

yeah i know the mcintosh's are expensive. very expensive. but the headunits sometimes come up on ebay used and i just wanted to know if anyone had actually heard it before. i was leaning toward a blaupunkt headunit or maybe one of those new panasonics.

ive heard the mcintosh, headunits before and next to an eclipse headunit (same price range) the eclpise sounds alot better. plus not to mention the output voltage you will be getting on the pre amp side. 16volts @ 57 ohms:eek: the closest thing that comes to that, that i can think of is a premier headunit 6volts@100 ohms.

On a 1200 budget - I would get the following :
- nakamichi HU about $300 (looking @ classifields there is one for sale) I've had mine for 6 years and works great and the SQ is still really good, the only thing is the lack of an MP3 player.
- Speakers - Image Dynamics Components 200 - 400 for the front and some coaxils for the rear ( 100- 200)
- Amp for the speakers (4 X 75) - Crossfire are pretty bang for the buck. 200 - 300.
- then about 100 for the wires
_ installation is free with club202 if you're competent enough, there's everything you'd need to know on here.

I just put a complete system in my 1998 c230 non bose. I used rockford fosgate everything, except the deck...i used clarion...its simple, plays mp3 and has great quality...all for 200 bucks. In your case...i would get any 6.5 inch speakers with a 2 inch or less mounting depth because to use the stock adapter, the speaker cant be too deep. As far as an amp goes...I am using a fosgate amp that does 50x4 and that is a ton. My inside vocals out do my sub...by far. I wouldnt recommend the coaxials that i got because they have a deep mounting depth...I had to get them put in by a shop. You can find most mount depths on crutchfield.com

You could easily install the front speakers and even the rear. This website does the front and the same technique could be used on the rear or you could get a toyota t100 adapter plate by metra for the rear. As for the speakers in the rear deck, you could either replace them or remove them and just add a sub. Hope this helps...peace.

acutally removing the rear driver on the deck isnt recommended because the way they are wired up. if your not going to use an amp for the speakers then it might be ok, but if you are leave them on or put something in there. by taking off the drivers and only leaving two in the rear will drop the impedance to 2 ohms. (for none bose)

I took the rear drivers out. I have a fosgate amp installed. My speakers sound fine...could they still be at 2 ohm...at what bad can go wrong etc etc?

depending on how high you crank it and how the settings are on the amp it's tough to tell. by having them at 2 ohm your lowering the resistance of the speakers so the amp is going give them alot more power then they are intened to.
