I also have a '94 C220- i had this same problem last year when I installed a new zebrano shift knob. For a few days, the light didn't come on on the shift indicator, but after a while, the problem went away. H ow long has this been happening?

This is my experience with the older style gates which i think was carried over to the early 202s.
I believe the 94 uses the older style 124 shift gate. If so there is a buld that you have to changel It is behind the P N R D etc... so you must remove the assorted bits, trim panel, shift gate etc... to change the buld.
As for your trunk have you checked fuses, bulb, switch?

I just replaced mine last week on my 95 C36. It's super easy. Got the new light from the dealer ($4.00US - What a rip off!). Lift up your sifter cover and the light will be to the rear of the shifter once you take the rubber cubbyhole off.
