View Full Version : Mesh Grille: I just finish making a mesh

grille for my 99 C280, I had a extra grille frame I picked up for $10.00 so I thought I would see what I could design for a grille. I got the mesh from a tuner sight, my son uses for his Intregra, when I got it fitted, ny son said it looked like the Bentley Continental Grille but a lot smaller. Then I realized I need to make a hole in the mesh for the hood pull; I was going to dremel down the hood pull lever to fit into the hole of the mesh, but then I realized the pull would be about 1/4 wide, I don't think that would work, and I don't have a clue on fabricating a new pull and connecting it somehow to the original. The mesh itself is good quality. I am looking for any ideas on how to do this without messing up the mesh and the looks of the grille. what about some sort of stainless steal cable with a loop on the end just let it hang through a hole in the mesh.

why not just use a cluster hook or fabricate a hook to pull the catch.. just remove the tongue from the catch and use the hook to pull it through the mesh.

How about hooking the hood pull to an electric operated central locking solenoid with an on/off switch close by thats easily accessed, then no cutting of the mesh is needed. ;)

and post the address here, I hope tomorrow, It was a relatively easy job, until I thought about how am I going to open the hood. We are having a family reunion today, so I hope to get the pics tomorrow and perhaps that might help with more ideas. Thanks!
