carbon fiber can be fixed. My son ordered a CF hood for his car. It arrived in perfect condition. We checked it for size and it looked good. Today he takes it to the body shop and about a hour later the shop called my son and told my son the hood was cracked in the corner. I know they dropped it themselves, but it is going to be hard to prove, but when he brought it home I did some CSI work and found the Bubble rap was damaged when the cracked is and also the two pieces of wood that are screwed into the mounting holes have "new dents" on them. I am going there tomorrow and raise caine. But I doubt they will take responsibility and it is going to be hard to prove. The shop told him that CF can't be fixed, true or lie?

Thanks so much!

For conversation sake......

Yes it can be repaired just like any other composite stuff. Its like patching a boat that is made out of fiberglass.

Will you see the patch work. yes unless you paint it.

Since this is a new hood have the bodyshop get you a new one. Why repair something that you didnt damage.... raise that cane high!!!!

You could tell them to fiberglass repair the corner then to black airbrush the edges of the whole hood, then clear coat the entire hood. But it might cost you. I had a accident with a carbon fiber side skirt and I had to get a whole new re done because I wanted the carbon fiber to look smooth all over.

I was thinking about going to one of the many Boat stores in the area, I know some of them adverttise fiberglass repairs and as someone pointed out CF is laminated. By the way, and I hope this doesn't sound stupid, and I am probably answering my own question, but what is the difference between fiberglass and carbon fiber. Is it carbon fiber is made out of carbon, and fiberglass is fiberglass

the way i always heard it is that most carbon fiber hoods are a fiberglass skeleton w/a couple layers of carbon fiber laid over it, i know that there is "true" dry carbon fiber hoods out there that are made only w/carbon fiber but i heard that stuff is $$$$$$

fiberglass and the carbon fiber look was "painted" somehow on. My son took it to a air brush specialist today to see if he can duplicate the pattern on the broken section, if so, the body shop is going to glue it back together and the he will have the pattern airbrush, after that they are going to clearcoat the section. The body shop mentioned there must be 5 coats of clearcoat on the hood. He 99 they can blend the clearcoat to match the finis.

Yes, really CF hoods for my sons car are around $1100.00 and up according to the quality fo the CF. There are too many retailers who are leaving off the ads for these products the work CF Look, most of the cheaper product is not real CF.
