What can be done to reduce/remove gear shift that has slightly too much free play?
I started to notice it lately. There's a bit more free play
between each position when shifting from P-R-N-D-4-3-2-1...
It feel like a bushing or something has worn and caused a
littel extra gap somewhere.... (not sure if anybody understands
what I'm trying to describe... :) )
I recall reading something about this a long time ago... like
there's a small bushing or pad that can/should be replaced...
any advice appreciated! :)

yes there is a gearshift bushing that you will need replacing.. its located under the vehicle where the shifter meets the rod that connects to the trans linkage.
there is a clip that holds the rod into the shifter.. pop that off. then remove the old worn out and deteriorated bushing. next installing the new one is a bit of a job.. but if you put it in hot water for a bit to soften it up slightly it will make the process much easier.
then install the new bushing, you may need to persuade it! using channel locks or a pry bar.. make sure to support the opposite side so you dont bend the shifter.
then install the rod and put the clip back on.
its not easy to do.. you will need a lift to make things easier.. but Im sure it can be done with a jack and jack stands.

Hey, by any chance would anyone have a part number handy for this bushing? I searched importec catalog and found an "AT Shift Linkage Bushing," would that be it?
