Anyone consider swapping out their drive shaft for something really trick (e.g., carbon/aluminum mesh)?

Or is the stock drive shaft sufficient to handle any power upgrades that anyone could throw at their cars?

Carbon/aluminum mesh would be very nice. It would lessen the weight and require less torque to get moving.

Something to look into. :)

Yes, I thought about it and I even talked to a guy that builds Carbon Fiber Driveshafts. But I do not remember much about the conversation.

But if 3 or so people came together to by one I would think the costs would drop.

I sugguested this long time ago. I saw some muscle car show that had an american car with a carbon fibre drive shaft. they said it would decrease HP loss cause it was lighter (less rotaional weight or to some effect) and spins faster as well still strong cause it's carbon fibre.

If you're still interested in a Carbon Fibre drive shaft, I would join in a group buy.

Have you mailed my bushings yet?

I have no experience with lighter driveshaft on Benz's, but on Japanese cars you can't really feel the power increase, it's very marginal because it's not in direct relation to the rotation on the engine like lighter crank pulley or flywheel (on 5spd cars).

It does help to some degree, but IMHO not worth the money in doing since the cost for a carbon fibre one is most likely in the high $800-$1000+ range. Aluminum driveshaft would be more cost efficient if one is looking into replacing the stock driveshaft.

Ofcourse, for people looking into this is because their Benz are not a compressor type and/or AMG, so I guess every little bit helps. :)

Your comparing RWD MB's to RWD japanese inports right? you can proly cut out some HP loss front he tranny.
