Yesterday my wife was driving the car. She called me with this symptom:

1. Her RPM was 5k but was running 60 mph.
2. Tranny won't shift to 4th.

I did a quick search before I picked her up. Is my car in limp mode?

I found several things but I'm not exactly sure. I found wiring harness problems, tranny problems, MAS problems.

CEL has not come on yet. I test drove the car in bothg high and low RPM and everything seems fine. I disconneted the batteries to reset whatever is wrong with it.

What is this problem?

So you're saying it's running fine now?

If it seems to be running well now then maybe what happened is that instead of putting it on 'D' yesterday when she drove she accidentally pushed it one more step down to '2', it happens sometimes; you take it out of park and move it down reverse and neutral and then your arm just pushes it a little more below D since really there is no curve between D and 2.

Of course that would mean that she actualy forgot to look and check that she was on 'D' before assuming that something was wrong, in that case I think you need to have a little chat with the wife :D

I wish it were that simple. I know there should be more to that. I thought it was in limp mode.

I'm with 202rules, she probably had it in a lower gear and if you had wiring harness problems believe me you would know about it.

I was driving the car in 4th gear, 70 mph, about 3200 rpm then my rpm went up to 5000 but still running 70. It felt like my tranny is in N. What's going on?
