I'd like to know 2.
from talking to a friend who is a audio fab/installer, he said you have to keep a spare key in the car cause there's a security chip in the key.

i have the clifford 3.5 remote start/security alarm package installed in my vehicle. i have a 95 so there was no chip in the key. if you do have the chip in the key all you need is a bypass module that you place the key into and is wired into the ingnition harness. most likely the 556uw bypass. any more questions i am a DEI certified installer.

Whoever said no alram can be installed on a benz is stupid or uneducated. I will be installing a clifford rsx 3.5 remote start pager alarm on my car. Its the same as the viper vx971 but has a nicer remote, and now clifford and DEI/viper have merged. I now have a viper 500+ with shock sensor, 4 pizero sirens, 2 outdoor viper sirens, stealth brain install.
Mercedes has the following problems with high end alarms. The
-The trunk pop will not work for the trunk lock we have because it has a vacume pump that is triggered to open oven when the key is put into the car. If you really really want to put a trunk pop on these benzos then you need to cut the trunk cable on the vacume pump and seal it, then install the popper under the lock to open it once the trigger is activated. Once this is done, which is very hard and custom you need to install 2 acuators on each side, on the top of the rain guide. Its near the trunk lights in the lip that guides rain out the trunk. Hard to explain without pic.
-Secondly, the window roll down/up feature cannot be used. Mercedes requires the key to be in the ignition to roll a window up or down. This feature allows you to have all the windows up and leave the car, once you lock to car and activate the alarm, it will roll up all the windows. It will also lower the windows in a vent feature to keep the car cool if you have ppl or pets inside. If the window is open and someone sticks their hand or something else inside, a sensor will detect it and sound the alarm and roll the window up.
I would req. more alarms but these are the most known and best for ppl who will get them installed by a shop. As far as prices, I got quotes for $1000 from some asshole lol, who thought I was another sucker. The best I got was $550 for the clifford installed. Both the clifford and viper are around $225 and the installion for $225 is good to. Btw, this shop is in san francisco.
I can write a book on alarms and stereos but dont want to get to far into it. If you have anymore questions ask. Peace

you CANNOT install a remote start with a smart key. there is no bypass unit avalible for this key. if you have the switchblade key, then yes you can do it. by doing the remote start on smart key if you do get it to work, during takeover the the car will see a duplicate key and erase your smartkey, while shutting down the car. SO ONCE AGAIN IF YOU HAVE A SMARTKEY YOU CAN'T DO A REMOTE START.

I still belive that is not true. I have seen over 10 benzes, such as newer e classes, c240, ect. with smart keys and a remote start installed. Anyways, I think compustar alarms are nice, but not really worth the high price? Got a model #. I have not gotten my alarm installed but when I do, tons of pics and storys will be written up for how tos. Btw, I have a 1995 c220.

The compustar alarm model # is 2WSSR. About the smart key do all 99 C230K come with a smart key or was it an option.

Take a look at this site for example. Stating this product can bypass the smart key for a benz, type in your year and see what you get.

they have two for sale one is manual configuration the other one automatically learns the configuration. Both are the same price so why would someone buy the one that needs a manual configuration.

those bypass units their selling are for the resistors embedded in the key like the GM's or like fords with the tranponder. the way the mercedes smartkey works is a little different. it kinda works like a proximity sensor. GM also calls their keys with the chip, smartkeys. plus if your going to do a remote start do a good quality system. some of the shity systems are exactly that. you get what you pay for when it comes to alarm systems. and the install. plus a good tip when looking for that tach wire, do the voltage sensing instead, some of the alarms when using the tach sensing feature will burn the ignition coils.

I know this is an old thread, but I was just bored browsing. Neema, so it seems like it can be done. Do you know anyone who has done this, or maybe next time you see this you can ask what they have and how it works. Besides my interest I am sure there are many others interested in how to have a remote start with the smart key.
