I know TWS can do this 6 hours South in LA but thats a drive. Anyone have suggestions for race car shop, body shop or wheel place around Alameda/Santa Clara or SF counties?? My drivers side front rubs daily in parking lots and slow turns. I went to some body shops and they were just like "man just jack it up and use a baseball bat" im like uhh...no. If I had an old Drag race Nova or Camaro id use a bat on my ride. Sheat - no hammers or bats on my Benz ' F***k that. Now im cool if someone else does it so if they miss or EF it up they can fix it.

Thats what they use, at TWS they use a hammer and a heat gun and a 2 x4 , While i was there i talked to the tech Pete and he says he doesn't pull out that tool unless it major and the only way to releive rubbing.

Yeah, but I think the wait list is still like 1 year long...

Just go to Autoplus or have Topline take care of it.

Is your car a C36? If so the fenders are already rolled and I doubt you will get any more clearance.

I havnt spent alot of time around many different 202's but the other cars ive seen I have walked up to & felt underneath and the lips are exactly the same underneath on a C220 as the AMG cars. I used to hear that the AMG cars were rolled and to check I started feeling underneath regular 202's at the indie shops and parking lots. I assume actually that all the Benzes are rolled cause even bone stock 210 E's are rolled from my experience. I think C36's might be 'punched out' more and actually arent rolled but 'reshaped'!!!! Similar but not as drastic as a 500E/E500 flare job cause its visually wider on the passenger side. You can freakin tell man! Difference is subtle but noticible. The drivers side replacement fender is NOT rolled at all underneath and the lip is like 30 deg and not pressed flat back against the fender like the rest. Either the fender is aftermarket crap or just the way Benz fenders come 'loose' as replacement. It is possible since the press that makes the fenders is different than the production line press? Think about it...98% of 202's come factory with little 15-16 inch wheels that would never get close to the wheel well at stock ride height.

Well, jre320 & xstream - thanks for the tip. Ill call 411 & get those guys on the phone soon.

just called em. 9am they open and knew exactly what I needed

That explains it all. You are right, the replacement fenders do not come rolled. From technical manual for the C36 the fenders were rolled at the AMG facility. The manual even gives specs on how much to roll a replacement fender.

Kyle, just call autoplus, talk to Phil. He should be able to do it for you. They might need to take out the front caliper because the fender rolling tool need extra clearance.

sickness,

your correct, AMG cars ARE rolled up front. Rears are rolled on every 202 i've checked. I checked other non-AMG cars lately and they ARENT rolled at all. Iwas thinking about the rear 1/4's on most Benzes are rolled.

It doesnt make sense to me that factory 17's would even get close to fender under full lock with non-lowered car?? I guess AMG was looking out for us enthusiasts down the road or the US D.O.T. bumper req's made US AMG cars alot higher than the rest of the world market( '04 US VW R32 also sits higher than Euro counterpart) Euro market 202's do appear to sit lower than US versions in pics i've seen & that is why they are rolled to begin with?

Pnsji, thanks for the name drop at Auto plus. Ill be by there this week.

Kylie,

You could do it your self with rubber hammer/mallet.

MB fender lip is soft, and very easy to rolled. Unlike BMW's...

Make sure you have a lot patience and don't use full forced hammering the lips ;).

and for you.. here is my old siggy..

see some resemblance :p

Got it done today. Guys were carefull and patient w/my ride. There was a 714 C43 on BBS CH out front? Anyones?? Well im happy cause noise is gone now.

JIrwin,

Yhea the hammer trick would have worked cause after the drivers side was done I went and felt the AMG side. It had ridges where you could feel that it was hammered by hand and no machine/tool was used to 'roll'. So yes the metal is very thin and workable if your carefull. $45 got it done. Phil wasnt there but other guys got it done. They had ULTRA clean early Jap iron in there like Corolla Swift & another early Yoda on slicks.

the tool..

Tom (aka "Subman" from the Benzsport era) and I rolled our own fenders from the tool rented from Tirerack. Despite rumors of a 6-8month wait list, it only took like a month to get it (if I remeber right).

Here is a write-up w/ pictures Tom did of our work...
