Installed Pioneer AVIC-N1 DVD nav... finally gave up because of cooling fan noise...

I had just ripped out and returned the $2000 Pioneer AVIC-N1
DVD in-dash navigation system, which was unacceptable because
of excessive cooling fan noise. The dealer was very nice and
allowed me to exchange the unit three times. All four of them
made the same noise and the store manager heard it also.
It's got cooling fans behind the headunit and sound just like
computer cooling fans.

I can even hear it at 60mph with music playing... :(
Heck, the cooling fans spins anytime the car is on. The
fans just spin even if the unit is not used for anything at all.

Apparently I'm not the only one who has experienced this
problem... perhaps it's only occurs in a certain batch of them,
as I've played with one installed in a Bimmer that did NOT
have dead silent cooling fans.

Now I will probably give the TrafficPro a try and see what happens... :)

I wonder if this cooling fan noise is only limited to Pioneer in-dash DVD monitors... I've never had others like Alpine, Kenwood, or Panasonic....

Other than the noise problem, the Pioneer AVIC-N1 is everything I want in a box.... :(

Why dont you switch the fan. I am sure its a 40mm and you can get a extremely quite one for a few dollars.

i work for a pioneer leading retailer and we had a couple come back in the store back to back with that problem. you don't experience it with the alpines because they don't have a fan built in.

I'm running MB Quarts Reference in Front and Rear Doors, Nothing in rear deck left open as vents. MTX Thunder 564 Amp for the speakers and MTX 1501D for the two 12" Rockford Fosgate T1 Subs. I will also be adding monitors in headrests, PS2 and XBox, etc. (within a year). The system was done by myself and a friend. Also I have a lot of Black, White and silver suede left over so if anyone wants some let me know and I can give you a good deal.

i have the previous model avh7500dvd or some shit... it is the same thing, just allite boxier, still touch screen but no built in navi, man if you can find it and do without the navi it has my thumbs up! no fan noise, fits perfectly in 202 but still blocks hvac...

oh PS fukk good guys ban them! boycott their ass, terrible service, i spend $2500 on it the day it came out, spent $500 more for the protection plan, and $350 for instalation... i turned it in b/c screen was making noise when it opened and they kept it for 6 months, when they told me it would only be 4-6 weeks, then never called me when it came back in... sorry to vent... hate good guys!
