Great description. Prop's to you, we need more basic how to manuals.
Although using a topsider is a lot easier.
Thanks

Stupid me! I didn't know there was a drain plug..... some fool told me that the only way to get the old oil out was to use a topsider. You learn something new everyday!!
I didn't know also that the filter was in the top back area of the engine compartment. I guess the oil filter wrench fits in that tight space without any problems.

I'd also include steps for:
warming up the oil just prior to draining
lube the new seals before putting them in
putting down a mat under your working area to be enviro friendly,
and maybe pictures of the filter itself with the new seals.
But otherwise, nice quick diy.

Great write up.
On all of our cars (VW, AUDI, BENZ), I have simply untwist the old filter and twist the new filter back on w/ hand. I've been doing it for at least a decade, and only lately, I have other techs telling me otherwise.
I still don't see the disadvantages.... yet.

Is an oil filter wrench really necessary? I get mine off by hand with no problem.

Sh*t man, I couldn't even get mine off with the wrench! I borrowed one from denlasoul and ruined it...don't worry dude I still haven't forgotten I owed you one! My cap was reefed on there by the stealership!
Feedback - Might want to indicate where to get the filter wrench, etc.

no wrench here either...
As tight as your left hand will get it has always been rule used by me. No leaks ...ever!
My car changes its own oil actually. 1/2 quart every 500 miles! I let my garage floor absorb the old stuff....hahe

LOL Three point my car does the same thing! I use mine as my daily driver and I've had the head leaking for awhile but it was only minor so I figured I'd live with it till I got a chance to do it. Lately though its gotten worse, I figure I put in about 4 extra quarts by the time 3000 miles hit and its time to change it. Funny, I thought it was just me who had a car that changed its own oil!

Oh and I almost forgot, if you have to use a wrench to take off the oil filer you're using way too much torque when you tighten it. Basically the rubber washer/grommet that comes with the filter seals the plastic filter housing on there and its not the torque that holds it on anyway.

Nice link.
The only thing I do is loosen the filter cap first (to allow air in) before I drain the oil.
It'll suck all the oil out of the filter and it will be bone dry when it comes out that way. Not as messy this way, and one less hassle.

I wish mine graced the driveway, no mines blow by... 7lbs of boost has taken its toll, im i add 1 qt every time the light comes 3X then change :)
I accidently went lik 8K on mobil1 10-50 last time... but it should be ok for 10K esp with the partial changes
