Hey all, Well my problem is when i start my car i hear a tapping noise. It seems like the timing belt im not to sure. So i checked the Power Steering unfortunately i had no more fluid in there so i filled it up. But the noise is still there. When i step on the gas the noise goes faster and a little louder. It must be hitting something but any ideas anyone?
Thank you

I had a similar problem... Does it still do it after the car warms up? try checking the connecting rods.

yah it still does it after it warms up, where are the connecting rods?
I had the exact same thing.....
im not sure about your model...,but on most there is alittle
solinoid in front of your ABS system, which varies the amount of gas vapour in you fuel tank via the vaccum of the throttle body,
its an emission control...
anyways, the solinoid makes a tapping noise which seems to open and close at a ratio to engine speed...
I went to MB to see if it needed replacment, but they said it would make no difference and that i was best to put something over it to mask the tapping......
could be same for you.....if its not that, its sounding very expensive:)

Paul

I think you mean timing chain, our W202s dont have timing belts.. but a chain.
well thats lucky oyur getting it done for free.. its not a cheap job normally.

The cover of the timing CHAIN was broken? If so oil would be all over the place wouldn't it?
Maybe it was something else.....Serpentine belt?

Yeah he means the serpentine belt but I'll tell ya now, the belt would not make the ticking noise. The person who told you about the emission control solinoid knows his stuff. If you want to actually test it, you can diconnect the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the switch over valve on the front of the engine under the plastic cover and you'll see that the ticking will stop. Oh and please before you do this, have the car off and don't get anything caught in the fan, especially yourself. :p
Another example of stuff I know for no particular reason lol.
