The owner of the indy Mercedes shop that I frequently go to
has a Kleeman supercharger kit in his '99 C280(V6). It's the
exact same engine I have in my car.
I've driven the car a couple of times while he changed my
"lifetime" transmission fluid. It is a blast to drive.
He just acquired a E430 from another customer and plans to
get rid of the C280. However, he will be removing the supercharger
kit before selling the car.
The price he offered on the entire kit is $1100. He will also
install it for me for $500. Basically, that's $1600 installed.
The kit has been in his C280 for about 8 months and 6000 miles.
I can verify this because I was in his shop during that install.
What do you guys think? Is the price too much? If so, what
would be a fair price? One other consideration is that I have
about 1 year left on my extended warranty. By installing the
supercharger kit, the warranty will become void.

Go for it!
What a deal.
About your remaining warranty, unless any claim is DIRECTLY attributed to the S/C, there should be no problem. ;)

I believe the last time inquired about having the kleeman kit installed on my C280 I was quoted a price of $11,000. If this man is offering it up for that... I would be all over that like white on rice.

When he was installing it, I asked him how much it was. He told
me it cost him around US$5000. He got it while he was visiting
relatives in Switzerland last year. I believe he told me that
Kleeman didn't actually have a kit for the W202 C280 V6 and they
had to make some modifications. Obviously he didn't have to
pay for any labor, since he owns the MB repair shop. :)
That's it, I'm calling him Monday and buying it. Keeping my fingers
crossed because I know another one of his customers is also
very interested... :D

Thats a steal. 1500 with install!?!?!? It would cost me that much just to have a s/c installed on my car. Also, if you have any problems you can go direct to him!

Actually, that is my other concern... The owner is a very
experienced MB mechanic. Keyword being "experienced"
as in the last 30 years. He's already 71 and in good health.
However, if something happens to him, I'm guess the shop
would close for good.(and the three techs who work for him
would probably go somewhere else) If that were to happen,
will my supercharger/engine become an orphan? :(

dude,
$1600 installed is a steal. evosport charges $8000 just for the S/C. if the charger works, go for it no matter what. plus, doesnt kleemann offer 5yr warranty for a few hundred bucks(thats what I heard from a friend of mine, but dont quote me on it)?

$1600 for one of the best performance mods you can put on your car that usually runs 3 or 4 times more in price. Get it right away. Also, as far as S/C go their isn't many problems with them as there are with turbos. Plus if it is Kleeman they have some of the best if not the very best products out there for mercedes.

I didn't have time to go down to the shop yesterday.
This afternoon, I went there and got the bad news.... :(
The kit was sold to another customer and it was already
being installed while I was there....
Oh well... who needs another 100 horsepower anyway?
(doing my best not to make my sour grapes face) :(
